Subsidised residentials

Group of children on a YHA residential near YHA Langdale

Get young people closer to nature

Book a 3-day school trip from just £25pp

YHA are experts when it comes to school trips and we believe every child should experience a trip away from home. That’s why we are offering subsidised residentials for up to 1,500 young people this winter. Connect your pupils to nature with inspiring experiences in beautiful places.

Primary and secondary schools can apply for a subsidised residential if at least 30% of the children attending receive Pupil Premium or free school meals. At the core of this demographic are young people who are traditionally less likely to connect or engage with nature and nature preservation/conservation.

These residentials are supported by our no child left behind appeal. This helps to give more children access to amazing adventures and a chance to build their confidence and new skills, particularly children who would otherwise miss out.

Connections to nature improve wellbeing

Research has shown that school trips have long-lasting, positive outcomes for all children. Trips away from home help to build a child’s confidence, creativity and friendships, as well as making lasting memories to remember forever. Throughout the pandemic, 45% of people in the UK told the Mental Health Foundation that visiting green spaces helped them to cope.

The ‘quality’ of our connection to nature also matters. The closer we feel to it, the more we are willing to take action to help our wildlife and the environment. In the context of collapsing biodiversity and the climate crisis, closer relationships with nature are more vital than ever before. The UK is one of the poorest countries in Europe for nature-connectedness, ranking 16th out of 18th countries surveyed.
