A Georgian Mansion House, built in 1784, the Hostel was bought by the YHA in 1947 for the princely sum of £1500.00 from the British Steel Corporation who used the house in the second World War 1939-1945. This was due in large part to a very generous donation from a Mr. Thomas Wilson of Manchester.
Manager Stephen: "I have worked for the YHA for over 25 years, 21 of which have been spent at YHA Stratford-upon-Avon. I started here as Assistant to the Catering Supervisor, then Catering Supervisor, Deputy Manager and finally Manager (for 5 years now). I am very passionate about the YHA as an organization and love coming to work every day, not ever really knowing what each day will bring. The challenge for myself and this company is to meet the needs that an ever changing society is asking of us and looking to exceed customer expectation every day."
Manager recommends: Have a day trip to Warwick Castle - the best medieval castle experience in the UK, if not the world! Meet Henry VIII in the Great Hall, delve into the castle dungeons and see the castle birds of prey take flight at this exciting blast from the past experience. YHA Stratford-upon-Avon is great for both educational visits and family holidays. Believed to be the oldest pub in the town, the timber framed building housing The Garrick Inn dates back to the 1400s. One can only wonder if Shakespeare ever supped here! Pop in for a pint.
James, our events and activities manager, has scoured the streets of Stratford-upon-Avon in search of the best afternoon tea. Hobsons Patisseries, just off Bridge Street, offers a delightful cream tea, lovely cakes and great tasting tea and coffee.
