Website Accessibility Statement

Website Accessibility Statement

At YHA, we believe that everyone should be able to use our website, regardless of the technology they are using or their ability.

We have taken steps to ensure that our website is accessible to as many people as possible.

For example, this means that you should be able to:

  • change colours, contrast levels and fonts
  • zoom in up to 300% without the text spilling off the screen
  • navigate most of the website using just a keyboard
  • navigate most of the website using speech recognition software
  • listen to most of the website using a screen reader (including the most recent versions of JAWS, NVDA and VoiceOver)

We aim to conform to level AA of the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) Web Content Accessibility Guidelines 2.0. These guidelines explain how to make web content more accessible to people with disabilities.

Browsers

Our website has been built using code that is compliant with W3C standards for HTML and CSS. The site displays correctly in the following browsers and uses standards-compliant HTML/CSS code.

Our website should display correctly in the current and previous two versions of the following browsers:

  • Chrome
  • Edge
  • Firefox
  • Safari

Some areas of the site require you to have JavaScript turned on to work. Please be aware of this and know that we are working on alternatives for release in the future.

AbilityNet has advice on making your device easier to use if you have a disability.

Areas we're still working on

While we work to make our website as accessible as possible, there are still areas we're working on to improve accessibility.

The specific areas where we are currently working to achieve better accessibility are:

  • provision of video and audio transcripts
  • provision of audio captions
  • provision of audio descriptions
  • we sometimes show third-party content, and we're working with these suppliers to make this content accessible in the future
  • some of the files on our website are available to download as Adobe PDF files

We are continually seeking solutions that will bring all site areas up to the same level of overall web accessibility. If you experience any difficulty in accessing yha.org.uk in the meantime, please contact us.
