Your safety is our number one priority which is why many of our hostels offer 24 hour reception cover, CCTV in shared spaces, keycard access to your corridor and room and lockable storage in your room (just bring your own padlock or you can buy one from us). We also offer single-gender dorms for no extra cost.

Whether you’re travelling on your own or as part of a group, you’ll feel absolutely safe and secure with us.

Not at all! Many people assume membership is required to stay with YHA but this is not the case. Anyone can book accommodation with us as a non-member. 

But of course, if you’d like to join YHA as a member you’ll be able to take full advantage of all our special offers and discounts. Plus you’ll be helping us meet our charitable objective of transforming young lives forever through travel and real adventure.

Absolutely not! Although we are the Youth Hostel Association, we very much welcome guests of all ages. Families, solo travellers, school groups and retirees all find a home away from home in our hostels. Whether you’re 18 or 80, adventure has no age limit – so pack your bags and join us. 

Guests aged under 16 must be accompanied by an adult aged 18 years or older. Guests aged 16 and 17 years old who are unaccompanied by an adult can only stay in private rooms in 24/7 staffed hostels, with parental consent. See our under 18s admissions policy for more information and the list of hostels. Under 12s are not permitted in dorm rooms.

Our hostels warmly welcome children and families with many locations offering family room as well as family-friendly facilities.

We’ve got plenty of dorm rooms if that’s your thing. They’re all single-gender and some can accommodate up to 12 people in each room (perfect for your group booking too).  But we also offer family friendly private rooms (some with en-suites) as well as cosy cabins and glamping options. 

Whether you want to bunk up with fellow travellers or have a room to yourself, the choice is yours. You can even bring your own tent. And if you’ve got a large group of people, why not hire the entire hostel?!

Whether you’re staying in a dorm room, a private room or one of our glamping options, you’ll be pleased to know that all the bedding is provided and made up ready for your arrival. We pride ourselves on our cosy duvets, crisp linen and comfy pillows so you’re guaranteed a good night’s sleep. 

Anyone staying with YHA (whether you’re in a room or even camping) can make use of our free showers. 

You’ll just need to remember a towel, toiletries and hairdryer plus a padlock for your room locker should you wish to use it. Earplugs are always a bonus in case anyone snores!

If it’s your first time staying with YHA then don’t worry about late-night arrivals. 

YHA hostels have a friendly, respectful atmosphere, with quiet hours between 11.00pm and 7.00am to make sure everyone gets a great night’s sleep. 

You’ll be spoilt for choice when you stay with YHA. Choose from an onsite restaurant, café or bar where, for a little extra, you can book a hearty cooked breakfast, lunch and evening meal to suit everyone. Plus kids can eat from as little as £1!

Or if you prefer to cook for yourselves, many of our hostels offer self catering facilities for all guests you can only dream of. Think communal dining spaces, plenty of fridges, hobs, ovens and microwaves plus all the pots, pans and utensils you’ll need. Perfect for the budget conscious traveller who wants to cook up a storm. 

Our kitchens are available to use 24 hours a day. 

Pets are not permitted in rooms with the exception of highly trained assistance dogs, which are welcome at any YHA site free of charge. Please let us know if you plan to bring an assistance dog during the booking process. 

Dogs are welcome to stay at many of our Camping & Cabins sites. There is a charge of £10 per dog per night in our Camping & Cabins accommodation. It is free to bring your dog if you are sleeping in your own tent. Up to two dogs are permitted per booking.

Dogs will have access to the public areas within the hostel but are not permitted in bedrooms or kitchens. They must not be left unattended in the hostel, vehicles or grounds. Owners are responsible for their dogs at all times. Any damage caused by a dog must be paid for by its owner.

Dogs are welcome to stay at many of our Exclusive Hire sites. There is a charge of £50 per dog for the duration of your stay. Up to four dogs are permitted per booking.

No two YHA hostels are the same – choose from historic castles to medieval friaries and grand manor houses to quaint country cottages. Each come with their own character and charm.
