The multi award-winning Kettlewell Hostel is super friendly with hearty homemade food and great social areas. It is perfect for families, individuals and groups alike. With a range of private rooms or great value dorm beds, it is a wonderful base for exploring the Yorkshire Dales.
The Kettlewell Hostel has been part of the YHA network for over 75 years and is an absolute gem! Set in a charming Yorkshire Dales village with plenty of great walks, friendly pubs, stunning views and some world class cycling routes close by, it is a real home from home, just perfect for an active break.
A really great place to base yourself for a few days' walking, Great Whernside and Buckden Pike are within a few hours' hike, as well as a week's worth of varied walking right from the front door. If cycling is more your thing, we are on Tour de France and Tour de Yorkshire routes and provide the perfect base for those looking to get some big climbs under their belts! We also have a great bike shed for storing your cycling equipment too.
Dorm rooms have multiple beds and shared with other people who may not be travelling together. They are usually more affordable than private rooms as you'll be booking a bed rather than the whole room. A ‘dorm bed’ is a bed in a room that is shared with other guests of the same gender.
A typical shared dorm room includes bunk beds, under bed storage box for each bed and a wash hand basin with hand soap. There is a USB charging point / shaver point and light. Individual reading lights are also available to use.
Children aged between 12 and 15 can stay in dorm rooms as long as they're accompanied by an adult of the same gender.
Shared shower and toilet facilities are located near to the room. None of our rooms have en-suite facilities.
Want some privacy? With a private room, you'll be booking the whole room for your stay.
All private rooms have an under bed storage box for each bed, and a wash hand basin with hand soap. There is a USB charging point / shaver point and light. Individual reading lights are also available to use.
Shared shower and toilet facilities are located near to the room. None of our private rooms have en-suite facilities.

YHA Kettlewell was built in 1917 as a guest house and has been home to a bakery, cafe, village shop, post office as well as being taken into the YHA family in the 1940s.
The hostel was sold in 2015 and since has gone from strength to strength as an independent hostel (though still very much part of the YHA) ever since!
Saul and Floss bought The Kettlewell Hostel from YHA in 2015 and have been working ever since to make this the best hostel in the country! Saul is the chef, Floss is head of housekeeping, together they manage to do everything!
Before buying the hostel, Saul was a manager for outdoor clothes company Rohan, Floss has worked as a financial researcher in Harrogate and they have two children Mollie and Humphrey.
We believe that by providing really good food and a nice welcome, in a clean, friendly and interesting environment that people would both have a nice time, and feel that they can come back time and again.
