Walkers are in for a treat! With YHA Kettlewell being pretty much at the foot of Great Whernside, a great day's walk is up, round the back of the house and over the top to Starbotton and back in time for tea! You could venture up and over Buckden Pike and back along the road, again - there's a decent pub on route! Or pop along the tops to Grassington, seven miles along the ridge with spectacular views of this glacial dale, just stunning and not too hard walking so suitable for a family amble.
Kettlewell is the first stop on the Dales Way, a popular break in the walk. Not only is there our fine hostel here but there are three really good pubs! Or try the Wharfedale Three Peak Challenge - a 22-mile circuit that begins and ends in Kettlewell village. It’s a wonderful day’s high moor walk over Birks Fell, Buckden Pike and Great Whernside in aid of UWFRA’s life-saving work. The main route and Two Peaks trail afford incredible views over the Yorkshire Dales and towards the more famous trio in Ribblesdale. A third 4.5-mile route is family friendly and includes a sublime higher level section known as Paradise Walk. Heavenly!
