Places to stay in Leeds

The city of Leeds has come a long way since its humble beginnings as a market town in the Middle Ages, now claiming the title of the UK’s second largest centre for business, legal and financial services. But it’s not all serious! The city plays host to a collection of interesting museums, sporting attractions and shopping galore. With its beautiful parks including Roundhay and Golden Acre Park, and close transport links to York, Bradford and the Yorkshire Dales, Leeds is the ideal place for a fun and varied family break.

Five Free Things To Do In Leeds

The Royal Armouries
Ignite your children’s interest in history with a visit to this fascinating museum. Home to the national collection of arms and armour, the Royal Armouries’ collections are focused around five themed galleries: war, tournament, self-defence, hunting, and Oriental weaponry. If your visit falls in the warmer months, you could also be treated to a display of mediaeval jousting!

Roundhay Park
This park is one of the biggest city parks in Europe, and is one of the most popular gathering places in the region, with around a million people visiting each year. Roundhay Park also houses Tropical World which offers a look at the largest collection of tropical plants in the UK outside Kew Gardens, not to mention plenty of fascinating animals, birds, butterflies and reptiles.

Temple Newsam
A perfect example of Tudor-Jacobean architecture, this stunning estate has facilities for football, cycling, golf, orienteering and horse-riding. As if that wasn’t enough, a neighbouring park is perfect place for children to spend an enjoyable day of their holiday.

Leeds City Museum
Enjoy a huge range of seasonal exhibitions alongside many fascinating permanent displays owned by the Leeds Archive, all housed in the old Mechanics' Institute building. An inspiring and educational day out for the whole family!

Just a short train ride away from Leeds, Saltaire is a must-see for visitors of all ages. Since philanthropist Sir Titus Salt founded this Victorian model village in 1851, it has enjoyed immense popularity. Thanks to its beautiful surroundings beside the Leeds-Liverpool Canal, it has also been designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
