Top attractions for entertaining the kids

Finding things for the kids to do on their school holidays is a challenge parents continually face, but luckily, help is at hand. This month sees the launch of the first Wallace & Gromit ride at Blackpool Pleasure Beach, and to celebrate this, tourism body VisitEngland has rounded up some of the best rides and attractions based on favourite kids' characters.

The Thrill-O-Matic

Opening on April 24th at Blackpool Pleasure Beach, the Thrill-O-Matic takes Wallace & Gromit fans through the duo's range of adventures, with elements of from favourite stories such as The Wrong Trousers and A Close Shave providing thrills for all ages.

The Making of Harry Potter at Warner Bros. London

If your kids are big Harry Potter fans, then a visit to the studio where the much-loved books were turned into acclaimed feature films is the perfect day out. You'll be able to see sets depicting scenes from Hogwarts that are sure to have kids enthralled, look at the costumes worn by their favourite characters and see the animatronics that brought creatures to life.

Thomas Land at Drayton Manor

For kids who like their steam trains with smiling, beaming faces, Thomas Land at Drayton Manor is the ideal place for a day out. There are 12 rides themed around the famous Thomas the Tank Engine stories, while you can also ride on a real full-size Thomas and play in the acres of beautiful parkland.

Madagascar at Chessington World of Adventures

Celebrating the DreamWorks film of the same name, Madagascar at Chessington features a live show with singing and dancing from the story's favourite characters, rides inspired by the film and a large safari, where you can see real-life versions of Alex, King Julien, Gloria and Mort in a natural setting.

Horrible Histories at Warwick Castle

If you want your kids to keep up with a bit of learning while they're on their holidays, then a trip to Warwick Castle could be just the thing. Here, there are five Horrible Histories camps around the castle grounds teaching youngsters about important parts of British history, from the Vikings to Henry VIII.

If you think any of these fantastic attractions will give your kids something to enjoy this summer, why not make a proper break of it with one of YHA's great value hostels
