Walking and Rambling in Medway
The hostel is close to the lovely North Downs Way, a great walking route just waiting to be discovered. Just over the road is Capstone Country Park, a beautiful area with woodland, lakes and wildlife...
Situated in rural Kent, opposite Capstone Farm Country Park, YHA Medway is a traditional Oast house with plenty of character. Guests are welcome to relax in the ambient communal lounge and be sure to look out for exposed beams and beautiful brickwork.
YHA Medway is well-located for winter sports at Chatham ski centre, historic Rochester, Chatham Dockyard and the Kent Downs – which offers lovely countryside for walkers to enjoy. Medway is also within striking distance of London, should you wish to combine your trip with a visit to the capital.
This hostel is available on an Exclusive Hire basis and for group bookings only.
Explore ‘The Garden of England’ with a visit to this former hop kiln in Kent. YHA Medway offers easy access to historic attractions and glorious countryside, perfect for school trips and activity groups alike.
The beautiful Capstone Farm Country Park is literally across the road and, if you’re a history buff, YHA Medway has plenty to keep you happy. Spend the day exploring the Royal Dockyard Museum at Chatham, the historic city of Rochester or Dickens World (a must-visit for schools). To break up your cultural break, adrenaline junkies can head to Chatham Ski Centre or get on their bikes at Capstone or the nearby North Downs Way bridleways.
Most of our bedrooms are dormitory style rooms with bunk beds. We always try to allocate bedrooms close together and will never ask your group to share bedrooms with anyone not in your group.
Upgrades are available for sole use of an area, floor or the entire place.

An oast, oast house or hop kiln is a building designed for kilning (drying) hops as part of the brewing process. They can be found in most hop-growing (and former hop-growing) areas and are often good examples of vernacular architecture. Many redundant oasts have been converted into houses or, in our case, into an affordable accommodation provider.
Ideal for outdoor pursuits, we are just a few miles from the North Downs Way and Sustrans Cycling Route 1. The Chatham Ski and Snowboard Centre is only a 5-minute walk away. YHA Medway guests can also visit Rochester Castle, Rochester Cathedral and Charles Dickens’ former home, at Eastgate House. Historic Leeds Castle is just 12 miles away.
The team at YHA Medway welcome you with over 20 years experience in hospitality. We will do our very best to look after you.
Manager recommends: A gentle walk opposite Capstone County Farm Park, safe and quick slide down the Hill of Chatham’s Snowsport Centre, a daily trip to London which is only 24 miles away, a memorable visit to Rochester Castle or a historic research at Chatham dockside.
