Formerly a traditional oast house, YHA Medway provides modern, comfortable accommodation for guests during their stay. The property is a fantastic base for a countryside escape with family and friends.

One room that sleeps up to 3 people. It includes a single high-sleeper bunk with a double bed underneath.

Six rooms that sleep up to 4 people each. They include 2 sets of bunk beds.

Two rooms that sleep up to 5 people each. They include and a single high-sleeper bunk with a double bed underneath and a set of bunk beds.

Kitchen and dining

The small kitchen is located on the ground floor and includes a range of conveniences listed below.

Kitchen appliances: freezer, 2 hobs (8 rings), kettle, 2 ovens, 3 refrigerators.

Kitchenware: dishes and cutlery for 53 people, kitchen utensils, pots, pans.

Cleaning basics: anti-bacterial spray, bin bags, cloths, paper towels, soap, sponges, tea towels, washing up liquid.

Located on the ground floor, the dining room seats up to 20 people across 4 tables plus an additional fold-out table. There is a separate meeting room with seating for up to 32 people across 6 tables as well as 6 extra chairs.

Three highchairs are available.

Lounge

The lounge is located on the ground floor and seats up to 10 people. There are 3 comfy sofas, 2 coffee tables and a wall-mounted flat screen TV to relax with in the evening after a long day.

Across the entire building there is a total of seven bathrooms.

Toilet paper is provided and hand soap is available next to all sinks.

Outdoors

Outside is a medium-sized garden. The garden is enclosed with a fence and bushes and has a gate.

Heating: There is a central heating throughout the property.
Towels and toiletries: Hand soap is provided next to all sinks. Towels are not supplied as standard.

Dogs: Hire YHA Medway and bring your dogs! Add a dog to your booking at the checkout and bring your four-legged friend along with you. Dogs are not permitted in the bedrooms, on the furniture or in the kitchen, and must be kept on a lead in the grounds.

Situated in rural Kent, opposite Capstone Farm Country Park, YHA Medway is a traditional Oast house with plenty of character. Guests are welcome to relax in the ambient communal lounge and be sure to look out for exposed beams and beautiful brickwork.

YHA Medway is well-located for winter sports at Chatham ski centre, historic Rochester, Chatham Dockyard and the Kent Downs – which offers lovely countryside for walkers to enjoy. Medway is also within striking distance of London, should you wish to combine your trip with a visit to the capital.

Most of our bedrooms are dormitory style rooms with bunk beds. We always try to allocate bedrooms close together and will never ask your group to share bedrooms with anyone not in your group.

Upgrades are available for sole use of an area, floor or the entire place.

History

An oast, oast house or hop kiln is a building designed for kilning (drying) hops as part of the brewing process. They can be found in most hop-growing (and former hop-growing) areas and are often good examples of vernacular architecture. Many redundant oasts have been converted into houses or, in our case, into an affordable accommodation provider.

Ideal for outdoor pursuits, we are just a few miles from the North Downs Way and Sustrans Cycling Route 1. The Chatham Ski and Snowboard Centre is only a 5-minute walk away. YHA Medway guests can also visit Rochester Castle, Rochester Cathedral and Charles Dickens’ former home, at Eastgate House. Historic Leeds Castle is just 12 miles away.
