Cycling in Medway
YHA Medway is in a great area for all cyclists. Capstone Country Park has plenty of cycling routes for all abilities.
Situated in rural Kent, opposite Capstone Farm Country Park, YHA Medway is a traditional Oast house with plenty of character. Guests are welcome to relax in the ambient communal lounge and be sure to look out for exposed beams and beautiful brickwork.
YHA Medway is well-located for winter sports at Chatham ski centre, historic Rochester, Chatham Dockyard and the Kent Downs – which offers lovely countryside for walkers to enjoy. Medway is also within striking distance of London, should you wish to combine your trip with a visit to the capital.
YHA Medway offers 52 beds set across 15 rooms:
1 x single, 4 x twin (dorm bed for two – skylights, no windows), 1 x triple (double bed and top bunk – window), 6 x 4 bed (2 x bunk bed – skylights/no windows), 2 x 5 bed (bunk beds – 1 x skylight and 1 with windows), 1 x 7 bed room (ground floor)
We've recently given YHA Medway a bit of love and attention and have spruced up the bathrooms, redecorated the bedrooms and made the communal areas in this cosy home-from-home warmer and even more inviting.

Volunteering with YHA is a fantastic way to have fun, learn new skills, boost your CV and travel to different places. We have a variety of different opportunities to choose from and volunteering roles to suit everyone.
The tasks are varied and in return you will meet some great people, who both work and stay in our hostels, as well as enjoying your time off discovering the local area and attractions.
You can find out more and apply to volunteer at this hostel on the volunteering website.
An oast, oast house or hop kiln is a building designed for kilning (drying) hops as part of the brewing process. They can be found in most hop-growing (and former hop-growing) areas and are often good examples of vernacular architecture. Many redundant oasts have been converted into houses or, in our case, into an affordable accommodation provider. Ideal for outdoor pursuits, we are just a few miles from the North Downs Way and Sustrans Cycling Route 1. The Chatham Ski and Snowboard Centre is only a five minute walk away. YHA Medway guests can also visit Rochester Castle, Rochester Cathedral and Charles Dickens’ former home, at Eastgate House. Historic Leeds Castle is just 12 miles away.
David and his small team, welcome you with over 20 years experience in hospitality to YHA Medway. David & Iain have accrued over 20 years hospitality experience together. This small team will try what they can to look after you.
Manager recommends: A gentle walk opposite Capstone County Farm Park, Safe and quick slide down the Hill of Chatham’s Snowsport Centre, a daily trip to London which is only 24 miles away, a memorable visit to Rochester Castle or a historic research at Chatham dockside.
