YHA Bath is situated in a stunning Italianate grade II listed mansion on Bathwick Hill; a street in Bath lined with historic, grade A buildings. The building was built in 1848 by Henry Goodridge (also responsible for designing Beckford’s Tower, Devizes Castle and several other villas on Bathwick Hill) for John Willoughby but he ended up living in it himself upon completion until his death in 1864. Not much is known about the building until it was bought by the YHA Trust in 1953.

"Fiesole", our authentic Victorian mansion, is built in yellow Bath stone and became a listed building in 1973. Our hostel has many beautiful period features and reflects Bath's famous Jane Austen heritage. Look out for romantic balconies, carved stone pillars, an atmospheric wrought iron staircase and all the Roman-inspired detail and creamy plaster of the Georgian look.

While staying at the hostel guests can explore the historic, World Heritage city of Bath, known for its gorgeous Georgian architecture and Roman baths. The main spring was, archaeological evidence suggests, dedicated to the goddess Sulis - known by the Romans as Minerva. Guests can visit Bath Abbey, wander down pretty cobbled streets, visit the Jane Austen Centre (a former resident) as well as sample the famous Sally Lunn bun. Further afield, guests can visit the charming and picturesque locations of Lacock, Avesbury and Wells. The world famous Stonehenge is also roughly one hours drive away.

Meet the team

Our enthusiastic team always has the time to help guests. Ask us about our favourite things to do around beautiful Bath and about the history behind our youth hostel. Feedback is always appreciated, so if you've enjoyed your stay feel free to give us a morale boost.

Manager recommends: "The Royal Crescent and The Circus are a must see, even on a short weekend break! Whether it is in the winter months walking with a hot chocolate or during the summer months relaxing in Victoria Park, the stunning architecture all around Bath city centre is breathtaking! Or get your skates and your groove on for Bath Pavilion’s Family Roller Disco. Sessions every Monday and Thursday evening."
