Nestled in the Mendips, with the world famous Cheddar Gorge just a few minutes' walk away, this large, characterful Victorian house and accompanying annexe makes the perfect short break destination for families, individuals and groups.
The Youth Hostel makes a great base for an exciting activity break and exciting activities for all abilities are provided by our partners Mendip Outdoor Pursuits. If high octane adventures aren't your thing, you can take it easier with some wonderful local walks and cycle routes, or travel to the nearby cities of Bath and Bristol.

YHA Cheddar has 58 beds in a selection of dorm rooms and private rooms, some of which are en-suite. The Youth Hostel is housed in a large Victorian house and annexe, with grounds, which is a great base for activity breaks in Somerset. There is a lounge with comfortable seating and a compact dining room, as well as a self-catering kitchen with plenty of work surfaces and a wide range of appliances. Crockery and cookware is provided.
Hire the whole place
This hostel is occasionally made available for hire on an exclusive basis. This means that you can have the place to yourself and choose how many of your friends, family, club mates, etc., join you. We allocate availability for exclusive use in blocks, typically up to 90 days in the future. If you are looking for space to stay with us on a normal shared basis, and can’t see any availability three months or more into the future, then this hostel may be being held for Exclusive Hire. YHA Cheddar was bought by YHA in 1960 from a YHA employee that had originally ran the hostel with their family. The hostel has had many improvements over the years, including an annex in the garden and changes to the dorms.
