What is the Wallace Collection?

The Wallace Collection is a museum in Hertford House, Manchester Square, in the centre of London. Inside, you’ll find the private art collections of the first four marquesses of Hertford, who once called Hertford House their family home, and Sir Richard Wallace, the son of the fourth marquess, whom the collection is named after. His widow bequeathed the collection to the nation in 1897.

The public museum includes pieces from the 15th to the 19th centuries arranged across 25 viewing galleries. There are some famous artworks here, including The Swing by Jean-Honoré Fragonard. In 2021, the painting was meticulously cleaned and restored, leaving it looking vibrant once more for visitors to discover.

The museum also hosts temporary exhibitions and events, with featured artists including Turner Prize winner Grayson Perry.

Free collection highlights tour

There is a free tour exploring the highlights of the collection every day at 2.30pm. The tour lasts one hour. Places are limited and are allocated on a first-come, first-served basis. You can reserve a place at the front desk when you arrive.
