Discovery and connection
This circular walk is a varied route that takes in some fine scenery, combining a steady climb with plenty to see along the way. Heading up onto Loughrigg, you get great views back over Great Langdale and across towards Grasmere, before dropping down to Rydal Cave and along the edge of Rydal Water. The route then follows the Coffin Route, an old path between Rydal and Grasmere, which gives a more relaxed stretch of walking with lovely views across the valley.
Overall, it’s a moderate walk with a mix of fell paths and good, well-defined trails, so it feels accessible without being too easy. With a combination of views, water and a bit of history, it’s a really enjoyable option that works well for anyone wanting a classic Lake District day out without it feeling too full on.
