Discovery and connection
This circular walk starts from YHA Keswick and is a great introduction to the surrounding fells, combining a steady, straightforward climb with really rewarding views. The route heads out of the town towards the lower slopes of Latrigg, following well-maintained paths up to the summit where you get panoramic views over Keswick, Derwentwater and the surrounding Lakeland fells.
From the top, the route drops down towards Threlkeld and joins the railway path, a wide flat trail along the former line. This makes for an easy and scenic return alongside the River Greta, with great views towards Blencathra, before leading you back into Keswick.
This is for people who want to upgrade their hiking from flat to peak and involves around 1,000ft (300m) of ascent.
