About RunYHA
Now in its fourth year, RunYHA is our trail running event held at YHA Castleton Losehill Hall in the spectacular back drop of the Peak District.
With a whole host of races and running-related talks and film showings taking place over the weekend, plus the option of staying over to boot – RunYHA is truly a weekend to remember. With shorter runs and a half marathon through the picturesque scenery of Castleton, and an awards presentation for the winners, there’s something for every kind of trail runner.

Route description
The Half Marathon has been dubbed the Skylite. A shorter but no less spectacular version of the famous Edale Skyline route.
A gentle start along the tracks at the back of the YHA leads to a road crossing at Hope then a delightfully steady climb up the old roman road to Hope Cross. From here an undulating cruise through Jaggers Clough, past the drinks station/checkpoint at Edale YHA and down into the village of Edale itself.
Time for some work now – a long but well graded climb up the tracks to the shoulder of Mam Tor. From here a level cruise along the south (sunny?) side of the great ridge and a short descent back into Losehill Hall and the finish.

Route description
The 10k route is a great loop around the skyline of Castleton village. The start is in Cave Dale just above Castleton, a brief warm up walk from Losehill.
A determined first uphill mile up the scenic dale past the castle ruins and cave entrances gains the more level tracks across Windy Knoll (past a cave full of prehistoric relics) and up onto the Celtic Hillfort of Mam Tor.
You are now 337 metres above where you started. Your reward is a spectacular view and a long gentle descent past Hollins Cross back down to Losehill.
