Five free things to do in Scarborough

Relax on the beach

The beautiful sandy beaches at Scarborough are the main draw, and the town is built around them. Whether you want to take a dip in the sea or play with the kids on the sand, Scarborough is a great destination.

Peasholm Park

The beaches can get fairly busy in the summer, so if you're looking for somewhere quiet to relax you might want to try nearby Peasholm Park, with its open spaces and tranquil lakes.

Walk the Cleveland Way

The full Cleveland Way weaves 110 miles along the east coast, but taking in just part of it - the ten miles from Scarborough to Filey is ideal - gives you some of the finest sea views around.

Raincliffe Woods

Nearby Dalby Forest offers all kinds of opportunities for exploring, walking and cycling, but it charges for entry. The smaller Raincliffe Woods is free and has plenty to offer walkers and cyclists.

Scarborough Art Gallery

With a wide variety of changing exhibits throughout the year, there's always something new to discover at this excellent free art gallery.

There's nowhere in the world quite like Scarborough

Ever since the railways brought the possibility of holiday breaks to the masses back in Victorian times, Scarborough has been a hugely popular tourist destination. From those looking for an extended break to those looking for a day at the beach, this seaside town on the Yorkshire coast has plenty to offer.

Aside from the beach itself, the limestone cliffs provide great scenery for hiking, while the town also sits on the edge of the North Yorkshire Moors National Park, providing places to explore and ample opportunity for exciting outdoor pursuits.
