Overview

This family friendly grade II listed building is an ideal base for cheap breaks, school trips and activity holidays in Beatrix Potter country. The hostel is great for walking and cycling, and nearby Grizedale Forest offers some of the country’s best routes if you're looking for a mountain biking holiday.

YHA Hawkshead also offers our biggest choice of Camping & Cabins - with an atmospheric village of camping pods, cabins and tipis in our grounds. Expect tranquil views, fabulous beer and plenty of Regency charm.

Accommodation at YHA Hawkshead

Bed in a shared room

Dorm rooms have multiple beds and are shared with other people who may not be travelling together. They are usually more affordable than private rooms as you'll be booking a bed rather than the whole room.

A typical shared dorm room includes bunk beds and a reading light.

Children aged between 12 and 15 can stay in dorm rooms as long as an adult of the same gender accompanies them.

Shared shower and toilet facilities are located near to the room. None of our dorm rooms have en-suite facilities.

Private rooms

Want some privacy? With a private room, you'll be booking the whole room for your stay.

Private rooms typically include a reading light for each bed, plus a wash hand basin.

For added privacy, relax with your family, friends or by yourself in a private en-suite room.

Cabins

Feel as cosy as can be inside a rustic cabin! Up to 5 people can sleep comfortably a double bed with a single over the top and a set of bunk beds - the walls of the cabin slope outwards for a more spacious feeling.

All bedding and heating is provided so you can relax and sleep under the stars in this wooden cabin where you'll be well protected from the elements. Guests have use all the hostel's facilities including the self-catering kitchen and lounges.

Camping pods

If you like camping, you'll love these wooden camping pods! A stay in them will includes all the fun of camping plus protection from the elements - they even have heaters.

Three are eight camping pods at YHA Hawkshead - the standard pod sleeps up to 2 people with two single beds and the large pod sleeps up to 4 people with a double bed and two single beds.

Premium bell tents

Our spacious bell tents are fully kitted out with a double bed and three single futons and can sleep up to 5 people with all bedding included.

There is eco-friendly solar lighting and comfy bean bags for you to chill out on during the day, plus rugs and a useful trunk for storage which you can lock with your own padlock. Premium bell tents also have the addition of a woodburner to keep you cosy. 

There is a fantastic village of 10 premium bell tents at YHA Hawkshead. Guests have use all the hostel's facilities including the self-catering kitchen and lounges, plus shared shower and toilet facilities.

Tipis

These spacious tipis are fully kitted out with bedding and can sleep up to 4 people on mattresses. They have a wooden floor which is partly carpeted and a lockable coffee table chest which you can store your belongings.

There's also eco-friendly solar lighting and two comfy waterproof bean bags for you to chill out on during the day, as well as a woodburner to keep you snug. This cosy glamping option is perfect for those who love camping but not roughing it.

There are three tipis available at YHA Hawkshead. All bedding is provided and guests have use all the hostel's facilities including the self-catering kitchen and lounges, plus shared shower and toilet facilities.

Hire the Courtyard building

Hostel need to know

Reception hours: From 07:30 - 10:00 and 17:00 - 22:00.

Food and drink: Breakfast is served to guests daily from 07:30 – 09:00. Meals are also available from 17:00 – 20:00.

Self-catering: Guests have access to a self-catering kitchen.

Parking: There is free parking on site and an overflow car park for use during busy times.

WiFi: Free WiFi is available in shared social spaces.

Dogs: Pets are not permitted at YHA Hawkshead, except in our Camping & Cabins accommodation or when hiring the whole hostel or Courtyard through YHA Exclusive Hire. Assistance dogs are welcome - please notify us at the time of booking.
