Accommodation at YHA Grasmere Butharlyp Howe

Bed in a shared room

Dorms are not currently available. 

Dorm rooms have multiple beds, are typically more affordable than private rooms, and shared with other people who may not be travelling together. A typical shared room includes bunk beds, a reading light and a storage cupboard for each guest, secured by a padlock if required.

Children aged between 12 and 15 can stay in dorm rooms as long as an adult of the same gender accompanies them.

Some dorms may be en-suites, meaning that they have a bathroom in the room that you would be sharing with the other people in your dorm.

Private rooms

Don't fancy sharing a room? Private rooms typically include a storage cupboard for each bed, secured by a padlock if required, a reading light and a wash hand basin. Shared shower and toilet facilities are located near to the room.

Camping

There is room for 12 people in a secluded corner at the front of the hostel. Camping guests are welcome to use the hostel facilities including the self-catering kitchen and toilets and showers.

Guests have year-round access to 1 shower shack and 1 toilet shack, where you can freshen up after a sleeping under the stars.

Tipis

Get all the fun of camping but without any of the set up stresses with these beautiful tipis - part of the YHA Glamping experience. These spacious tipis are fully kitted out with bedding and can sleep four people on mattresses. They have a wooden floor which is partly carpeted and a lockable coffee table chest which you can store you belongings.

There's also eco-friendly solar lighting and two comfy waterproof bean bags for you to chill out on during the day, as well as a woodburner to keep you snug. This cosy glamping option is perfect for those who love camping but not roughing it.

Guests have year-round access to 1 shower shack and 1 toilet shack, where you can freshen up after a sleeping under the stars.

Landpods

These brand new Landpods, upgraded for 2019, are fully waterproof and sleep up to four adults. They are slightly elevated off the ground for a comfortable night’s sleep under the stars – you can even open the roof for a better view! With LED lighting these cosy pods include all beds and bedding. There is a table, bench and BBQ firepit outside so you can make the most of the great outdoors and dine al fresco.

The new larger Landpod sleeps up to 4 people, on two small double mattresses (one above the other) and a single futon mattress, which doubles up as the seating area. They’re even tall enough to stand up in!

Guests have year-round access to 1 shower shack and 1 toilet shack, where you can freshen up after a sleeping under the stars. There is no heating in our Landpods.

Hostel opening hours: YHA Grasmere Butharlyp Howe is open to the public from Monday - Sunday, 07:00 - 10:00 and 17:00 - 22:00.

Reception hours: From 07:00 - 10:00 and 17:00 - 22:00.

Restaurant opening hours: YHA Grasmere Butharlyp Howe’s restaurant is open from Monday to Sunday, 07:30 - 09:00 and 17:00 - 20:30. Breakfast is served daily from 07:30 - 09:00.

Parking: The property has a small car park 200m from the hostel with limited free spaces for guests and patrons. This car park is controlled by an ANPR parking system. Upon arrival, motorists are required to validate their presence by entering their car's registration number at reception. There is a designated drop-off point closer to the entrance. Additional parking is available close by in the village.

WiFi: Free WiFi is available in social spaces.

Dogs: You are welcome to bring your dog with you if you are camping. Pets are not permitted in the hostel accommodation at YHA Grasmere Butharlyp Howe. Assistance dogs are welcome throughout.

YHA School Trips

YHA Grasmere provides biology and geography educational packages in association with the Field Studies Council. There is also the chance for adventure with a range of exciting outdoor activities available. This hostel accommodates 80 people whilst providing group catering and classroom facilities.
