Discovery and connection
Geopark officer Alan Bowring leads a figure of eight route from YHA Brecon Beacons that takes in the dramatic glacial cirque of Craig Cerrig-gleisiad with its arctic-alpine flora. A steepish ascent to the plateau via an ancient landslip scar follows, before we drop down into the delightful hidden Cwm-du with its shifting mountain stream. From an old turnpike bridge, we follow tracks ascending amidst scattered larches to the 629m summit of Fan Frynych, once a scene of industry but now populated by skylarks and sheep, before weaving back down into Glyn Tarell.
