Places to stay in Swansea

Once the key centre of the copper industry, Swansea is now a haven for walkers, cyclists, shoppers and even surfers. Visit the coastal city to find out more about its link with the famous poet Dylan Thomas, or indulge your sporty side with a tour of the Liberty Stadium. A huge tropical hothouse bursting with 5,000 unusual and exotic plants awaits you at Plantasia, while even the most active visitor will be well-catered for at the beachfront leisure centre - The LC - which boasts climbing, swimming and spa facilities. Swansea prides itself on being a place where city meets country and has an impressive 52 green spaces, some of them award-winning. While many are solely dedicated to letting you sit back and enjoy the delights of nature, others have a little something extra, like the Ashleigh Road Pitch and Putt golf course and the Clyne Valley Orchard, which has a nature trail and play equipment.

Five Free Things To Do In Swansea

Swansea Promenade
A five-mile promenade stretching from Marina to the seaside village of Mumbles delivers fantastic views across Swansea Bay, and while you can catch a land train along the route in the warmer months, a stroll or cycle is a great way to take in views of the Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) at Blackpill and the Lido.

Bracelet Bay
Not only is Bracelet Bay a Blue Flag beach, it is also registered as a site of special geological interest. Home to Mumbles Lighthouse, visitors can enjoy views across the Bristol Channel to Devon when the skies are clear, and during the summer months lifeguards patrol the beach, making it perfect for children.

Blackpill Lido
The Lido is the place to be in the summer months, with its paddling pool, children’s play area, picnic facilities and climbing rock. Even when the Lido is closed in the winter months, the over-wintering birds that visit the area are a sight to see.

The Dylan Thomas Centre
See 'Dylan Thomas: Man and Myth', the Centre’s permanent exhibition commemorating the life of this Welsh poet, short-story writer and playwright.

Go cycling
Swansea Bay is part of both the Celtic Trail and the National Cycle Network, with its traffic-free routes taking you right beside the seafront for views that’ll make your holiday.
