Places to stay in Durham

The city of Durham beautifully combines stunning historical sites and natural features, with all the modern conveniences and attractions you would expect from a city. It is hugely popular with those looking for an interesting city break that is a little different to those spent in a sprawling metropolis.

Built on the River Wear, the skyline of the city of Durham is dominated by its Norman cathedral and the imposing 11th century castle, both of which are designated UNESCO World Heritage Sites and attract thousands of visitors every year. The cobbled streets are home to quirky shops and stylish boutiques which create a unique shopping experience.

For a longer trip, you can spend a day outside the city at one of the many fantastic attractions in the surrounding area; get a taste of the past at Beamish, walk the Durham Heritage Coast and take in the High Force waterfall or get active in the outdoors with climbing in the Durham Dales - there's plenty on offer for people of all ages.
