One of YHA’s most remote hostels, this former 18th Century inn is a beautiful rural retreat in the Black Mountain range area of the Brecon Beacons.
The hostel boasts spectacular views of the Sawdde Valley and trails lead to the legendary Llyn-y-Fan glacial lake, meaning the hostel is ideal for great walking holidays. The area is known for Red Kites and other nearby attractions include the National Botanic Gardens of Wales, Aberglasney Gardens, and the medieval castles of Dryslwyn, and Carreg Cennen, which are all within easy reach.

This 22 bed Youth Hostel has a selection of dorm rooms and private rooms available as well as some camping pitches. The room breakdown is as follows:

The hostel is self-catering only.
Our self-catering kitchen has two big ovens with hobs, two toasters, lots of kettles, saucepans, plates, cafetieres, a mocha coffee maker if you fancy a nice coffee, large gas-fired BBQ, two microwaves and all the cutlery you'll need - including potato mashers!
YHA Llanddeusant has three areas for camping. The main area, the Youth Hostel garden, has a capacity for 10 tents and seating and tables for meals. Facing west, you can enjoy beautiful sunsets and views over Coed Pen Arthur and Tricrug across to the peak of the Black Mountain (Mynydd Du). As well as this, YHA Llanddeusant is in a Dark Skies area which means you can feast your eyes on countless constellations. There are another two areas which are also used for camping.
Campers have full access to the indoor facilities which include showers, toilets, a self-catering kitchen and comfy chairs in case of bad weather.
Laundry facilities and towel hire is available.
There is a large gas barbecue which can be used by all guests.
There is a basic telescope available for use, Paul, the Hostel manager, can bring a large set of telescopes, astronomical cameras, printers etc. up, this needs to be by prior arrangement and there is a charge for this. There are regular star gazing evenings, email [email protected] for details.
Children’s and adult mountain bikes are available to hire from the hostel by arrangement.
Cars can be parked in the area adjacent to the garden which is separated by boulders.
Hire the whole place
This hostel is occasionally made available for hire on an exclusive basis. This means that you can have the place to yourself and choose how many of your friends, family, club mates, etc., join you. We allocate availability for exclusive use in blocks, typically up to 90 days in the future. If you are looking for space to stay with us on a normal shared basis, and can’t see any availability three months or more into the future, then this hostel may be being held for Exclusive Hire. Pets: Dogs can stay on our campsite. You can bring your dog for free if you are camping in your own tent. Pets are not permitted in the hostel accommodation at YHA Llanddeusant however, assistance dogs are welcome throughout, please advise upon booking.
Towels and toiletries: Towels and toiletries are not provided but are available to hire or purchase from reception. Bedding is supplied.
