If you’ve got a bit of a sweet tooth, then don’t miss popping into Fudge Kitchen during your trip to York to watch a fudge-making demonstration. The free demonstrations only take a few minutes, so it’s a fun thing to add to your itinerary when you’re wandering around the city.
York Fudge Kitchen is Fudge Kitchen’s flagship store. They craft artisanal fudge, caramels, and gourmet confectionery in small batches using the finest natural ingredients. The shop is located on Low Petergate, just a stone’s throw from York Minster and close to the Shambles.
The demos are suitable for both adults and children. Kids in particular will love the sensory and interactive elements. The staff sing and joke as they work, making it fun for all the family. There is no obligation to buy the fudge once you’ve seen the demonstration – although of course you can, if you want to!
Fudge Kitchen is one of the best producers of fudge in the UK. Whether you’re a fudge enthusiast or just a fan of confectionery in general, it’s well worth a visit. There may even be a few free samples on offer!
Fudge Kitchen is best known for its lively fudge demonstrations, where the staff make fudge in full view of their customers. You won’t have thought fudge-making could be so theatrical!
Here, they focus on using natural, top-quality ingredients and use a handmade process to make the fudge in small batches. If you’re thinking of taking something home as a gift for someone, then some delicious fudge would be a great option.
There is a variety of flavours on offer, ranging from the traditional clotted cream to the more outlandish key lime pie or birthday cake. The flavours change seasonally, and the staff sometimes get creative, adding new ones.
It’s a short but memorable stop during your day exploring York, and a fun, free activity to pop into when you’re nearby. A visit here is a real treat – literally!
Yes, you can watch the fudge being made at Fudge Kitchen throughout the day for free. You’ll be able to see the hot fudge being poured onto marble slabs and the staff working, beating, stretching, folding, and shaping it into the finished product.
Staff are chatty and humorous, and the atmosphere is friendly and informal. You’ll learn more about the temperature and texture of the fudge, how they add flavours to it, and how it is cooled.
York is also known as the Chocolate City because of the long tradition of confectionery creation here. Brands that have been based in York include Terry’s Chocolate Orange, Rowntree’s, and KitKat.
York was an excellent location to produce sweets and chocolate, thanks to its fantastic transport links. Ingredients were transported by river and rail before the final products were delivered around the country.
Humbugs, cakes, and fudge are all still produced in the city, and chocolate is still an important part of York’s identity.
• Monday – Saturday: 10am – 5.30pm
• Sunday: 10am – 5pm
The shop can get busy, especially during weekends or school holidays.
If you fancy trying your hand at fudge-making, you can do so at Fudge Kitchen with one of their fudge-making workshops. You’ll learn how to make fudge, and you’ll get to try plenty along the way, too.
You’ll go home with newfound fudge-making skills and some delicious fudge slices. There is a charge for this activity, and you’ll need to book in advance.
If your sweet cravings haven’t been satisfied in Fudge Kitchen, you can extend your confectionery tour of York by taking the York Chocolate Trail. The York Chocolate Trail is a free walking tour around the city, discovering places that relate to the past, present, and future of confectionery in the city.
You can download a map for free online to use on your phone or print it out, if you’d prefer a paper map.
