London Calling

You don't need us to tell you that London has lots of attractions - the Tower of London, Madame Tussauds, Big Ben…you get the picture. If you want to have enough money to see as many of these as you can on your stay in the Big Smoke, then a YHA hostel is the perfect option; cheap accommodation in London isn't easy to come by - especially when you consider the quality and general high standards our London hostels offer.

Look through our list and you're sure to find one that suits your tastes - either in style or location. From the backpackers hostel at Earls Court in the heart of London to the stunning 17th century Jacobean mansion which houses our London Holland Park hostel, there's something for you here.

But if the idea of joining the huge crowds at the London Eye or the London Dungeon fills you with dread, fear not - there's so much to do in the capital it's easy to avoid the hordes and still enjoy an amazing city break in London. Still not convinced? Here are a few tips for alternative London attractions that most tourists won't know about…

Ok, so the name might not grab you, but we guarantee you'll feel the twangs of nostalgia as you look on the thousands of old designs which cover the walls here, and marvel at how the sight of an old Tango can brings back all sorts of forgotten memories.

The Vault

Buried beneath the Hard Rock Café is a museum called The Vault, which has some seriously cool music memorabilia, including a guitar once used by Kurt Cobain and hand-written lyrics by John Lennon and Paul McCartney. Tours are free, too.

Horniman Museum

While the big museums pull in the big crowds, the Horniman Museum quietly goes about its business with its eclectic Victorian displays, including strange taxidermy, unusual instruments and an aquarium.

And for when you get peckish…

Gingerline

While many of YHA's London hostels do great on-site food, if you fancy eating out try getting on the Gingerline. Sign up and at 6pm you'll get an invitation to dinner at an eatery somewhere on the East London Overground. It's a great way to experience eating out in the capital.
