Instead you could use HR9 6HX which will take you to the post office. Once there, follow the brown Youth Hostel signs. Coming on the A40 from Ross-on-Wye/M50, take the junction signposted Goodrich. When you reach the Hostelrie pub on your left and the post office on your right then take the fork on the right; past the turn off to the castle onto the no through road towards Welsh Bicknor Coming on the A40 from Monmouth, take the junction signposted Goodrich. Follow the road until you see the turn off (left fork) towards Goodrich. You will pass the school on your left. After the School take the right turn onto the no through road towards Welsh Bicknor. The no through road from the village is about one mile long. Keep following the road uphill until you reach the cattle grid. Go over the cattle grid and across the meadow. Ignore the turning to the right just after the meadow. You will pass a house on the left and there will be a bin compound on the right. Take the fork downhill to the right just after this bin shed. This is the track down to the hostel. Be aware that this is an unsurfaced narrow approach with a hairpin bend. By bus: Herefordshire service #34 is the most regular one calling nearby, and stops in Goodrich. When walking from Goodrich follow the driving directions (1½ miles). By train: The nearest train station is Lydney. Gloucester and Hereford are slightly further away but have better connections to the local bus network.
