Accommodation at YHA Ninebanks

Bed in a shared room

Dorms are not currently available.

Dorm rooms have multiple beds, are typically more affordable than private rooms, and shared with other people who may not be travelling together. A typical shared room includes bunk beds, a reading light and a storage cupboard for each guest, secured by a padlock if required.

Children aged between 12 and 15 can stay in dorm rooms as long as an adult of the same gender accompanies them.

Some dorms may be en-suites, meaning that they have a bathroom in the room that you would be sharing with the other people in your dorm.

Private rooms

Don't fancy sharing a room? Private rooms typically include a storage cupboard for each bed, secured by a padlock if required, a reading light and a wash hand basin. Shared shower and toilet facilities are located near to the room.

Private en-suite rooms

Enjoy your own space with a private en-suite room. Private rooms typically include a storage cupboard for each bed, secured by a padlock if required, a reading light and a wash hand basin.

The chalet

YHA Ninebanks Chalet consists of two self-contained deluxe studio rooms situated in a quiet spot next to a copse of trees with hens and vegetables nearby. Hen House has a double bed. Veg Patch has a double bed and a single, perfect for a family of up to three people or as a double or twin.

Both rooms have their own entrance, a shower room, kitchenette, table and a sitting area with a wood burning stove. They have an adjoining door so can be booked together as one unit. The chalet is designed to be independent of the hostel and therefore has no access to the main building.

Hire the whole place

This hostel is occasionally made available for hire on an exclusive basis. This means that you can have the place to yourself and choose how many of your friends, family or club mates join you. We allocate availability for exclusive use in blocks, typically up to 90 days in the future.

If you are looking for space to stay with us on a normal shared basis, and can’t see any availability three months or more into the future, then this hostel may be being held for Exclusive Hire.

Meet the team

Ninebanks has been a Youth Hostel since 1947 and family owned and run since 1991. We live next door in the old blacksmith’s cottage. We never tire of the views – different every hour of the day! We love running our Youth Hostel and welcoming people to experience this beautiful and peaceful part of the country.

We recommend Hadrian’s Wall is always a popular visit from here, but nearer to hand is Killhope Lead Mining Museum – way more exciting than it sounds – with underground visits, a big waterwheel and shows how the intrepid miners lived years ago.
