Accommodation at YHA Exford

Bed in a shared room

Dorms are not currently available.

Dorm rooms have multiple beds and are shared with other people who may not be travelling together. They are usually more affordable than private rooms as you'll be booking a bed rather than the whole room.

A typical shared dorm room includes bunk beds, a reading light and a storage cupboard for each guest.

Children aged between 12 and 15 can stay in dorm rooms as long as an adult of the same gender accompanies them.

Shared shower and toilet facilities are located near to the room. Some of our shared dorm rooms are en-suites, meaning that they have a bathroom that you would share with other guests who are also staying in the room.

Private rooms

Want some privacy? With a private room, you'll be booking the whole room for your stay.

Private rooms typically include a storage cupboard and reading light for each bed, plus a wash hand basin.

Shared shower and toilet facilities are located near to the room.

Private en-suite rooms

For added privacy, relax with your family, friends or by yourself in a private en-suite room.

Private en-suite rooms typically include a storage cupboard and reading light for each bed, plus shower and toilet facilities solely for the people in your room.

Landpods

Like camping but with a few added extras! Our Landpods sleep up to 4 people, on two double mattresses and a single futon mattress, which doubles up as the seating area. All bedding is included, plus duvets and LED lighting.

Landpods don't have heating, so are more suited to the those who like a traditional camping experience. Even in the colder months, it’s nothing a couple of warm, cosy blankets can’t fix! There is a bench and BBQ firepit outside, so make the most of the great outdoors and dine al fresco.

Guests have full access to the hostel's facilities, including the self-catering kitchen, lounge and bathrooms - so you can cook delicious meals, or freshen up after your night sleeping under the stars.

Pitch-up camping

Camping is sold per person and not per pitch. During the booking process, you will need to select the number of people who you wish to camp.

A tranquil wooded garden surrounded on three sides by the river Exe, this site is in the centre of the village of Exford, near two pubs, a tea room, the village shop and post office. Exford village is in the heart of Exmoor National Park - an unspoilt and traditional piece of English countryside and one of England's Dark Skies Reserves.

Staying at YHA Exford means all the fun of camping under the stars combined with all the comfort of hostel facilities including 24-hour access to hot showers, a cosy lounge and a convenient self-catering kitchen.

There is space for up to 20 campers. The car park is located in front of the hostel building and is a short walk from the camping pitches.

There is a river running around the grounds and small children must not be left unattended. Campfires are strictly prohibited.

Meeting rooms

Exe Mead was a large Victorian villa that sat across from the original YHA Exford Cottages. Exe Mead was built around the 1890s as a wedding present, however the recipient never got married. In 1944, the hostel was used by American soldiers and converted into a makeshift barracks for six months.

YHA acquired the hostel in 1964 and opened very quickly, however the hostel needed substantial work and wouldn't have an official opening until early in 1966.

Meet the team

Manager recommends: After a day of activities or walking the moor, come back to the hostel and try stargazing. In this beautiful area of Exmoor National Park, the stars are amazingly clear.
