YHA's FIRST Impact Review

YHA's FIRST Impact Review

YHA held the launch of their first Impact Review last week at Central Hall in Westminster. Because of YHA’s long and wonderful history it is hard to have a “first” because often things have been done before. Our CEO Caroline White can categorically say that this was YHA’s first Impact Review and the first such high profile political event YHA has hosted.

This is the first time that YHA has been able to demonstrably show the positive difference they make to the lives of our core beneficiaries – young people.

YHA recruiting 70 volunteer managers across England and Wales

Following our best year ever in 2014 and visitor numbers already set to be smashed this year, we're looking to recruit 70 new volunteer managers to run hostels in England and Wales.

The search is now on to find volunteer managers for 25 Youth Hostels. As well as being an opportunity to get involved with us, it’s also an opportunity for people aged over 18 to enhance their CV or brush up on existing management skills.

YHA AGM 2015

YHA AGM 2015

By Caroline, YHA Young Champion

"This has to be the SMELLIEST AGM that YHA has ever held!" declared outgoing Chair Chris Darmon. It was indeed a curious venue: a grand marquee on the lawn of a gothic mansion, beautifully bedecked with chandeliers and fairy lights, but nevertheless open to the aroma of cattle manure wafting in on the countryside breeze.

Five Go to Boggle Hole

Five Go to Boggle Hole

Earlier this summer, five adventurers from YHA's E-Commerce Team went to deepest, darkest Yorkshire for a stay at YHA Boggle Hole. On the way they found shelter at other welcoming hostels, bravely collecting stamps as they went. Read on for a tale of scary vampires, intimidating cows and a shedload of pizza...

BMC's charity supports new website in bid to tackle Three Peaks Challenge problems

The British Mountaineering Council’s charity, the BMC Access and Conservation Trust, has helped to fund a new website which aims to reduce the negative impact of the national Three Peaks Challenge.

This weekend sees the summer solstice and the high point of the season for the famous Three Peaks Challenge, which involves trying to walk up the highest peaks of Scotland, England and Wales in one 24 hour period.

YHA Boggle Hole is back

YHA Boggle Hole is back

Following a whopping £1.2million investment, supported by the Coastal Communities Fund and Hostelling International Sustainable Fund, in addition to the very many generous donations and supporters of YHA, YHA Boggle Hole reopened on the 6th May after an 8 month refurbishment. Our first school group of 75 children stayed for 2 nights earlier this month. This has been a very challenging yet exciting project, largely because of its unique location of having to work (literally) with the tides to get on the site!

YHA Llywn y Celyn is now known as YHA Brecon Beacons

It could be the best name change since Norma Jean took a shine to Marylin Monroe - YHA Llwyn y Celyn has changed its name to YHA Brecon Beacons! After careful consideration we decided to rename our hostel so that we really make the most of its location in the idyllic Brecon Beacons National Park.

YHA Brighton officially opened by MP Penny Mordaunt

YHA Brighton officially opened by MP Penny Mordaunt

Coastal Communities Minister Penny Mordaunt officially opened YHA Brighton on Old Steine Road, on Monday 19 January. We have invested more than £1.2 million transforming the former 4-star Royal York Hotel into a luxury 180 bed Youth Hostel!

Our opening of YHA Brighton has not only provided much-need affordable accommodation for tourists and visitors to Brighton, but also secured the future of an historic Grade II listed building and also created 31 new jobs in the local economy.
