£1 Million Boost for Northumberland's Rural Enterprises at The Sill

The wide-ranging business and enterprise benefits of The Sill have been recognised with a £1 million investment by the North East Rural Growth Network.

The North East Rural Growth Network approved the £1million Sill investment from the Strategic Economic Investment Fund (SEIF). The fund is designed to stimulate the development of business infrastructure in rural areas and to strengthen the rural economy in the North East LEP (Local Enterprise Partnership) area.

BMC's charity supports new website in bid to tackle Three Peaks Challenge problems

The British Mountaineering Council’s charity, the BMC Access and Conservation Trust, has helped to fund a new website which aims to reduce the negative impact of the national Three Peaks Challenge.

This weekend sees the summer solstice and the high point of the season for the famous Three Peaks Challenge, which involves trying to walk up the highest peaks of Scotland, England and Wales in one 24 hour period.

YHA Boggle Hole is back

Following a whopping £1.2million investment, supported by the Coastal Communities Fund and Hostelling International Sustainable Fund, in addition to the very many generous donations and supporters of YHA, YHA Boggle Hole reopened on the 6th May after an 8 month refurbishment. Our first school group of 75 children stayed for 2 nights earlier this month. This has been a very challenging yet exciting project, largely because of its unique location of having to work (literally) with the tides to get on the site!

The Sill Project awarded £7.8million by HLF!

Great news for YHA! Our Chief Executive Caroline White was delighted this week to announce that the Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF) has awarded a grant of £7.8million to the Sill Project.

With the award of this significant sum the project has taken a huge leap forward. Northumberland National Park Authority, YHA's partners in the project held a big press event at YHA Once Brewed on a beautiful, but bitterly cold winter’s day to the gathered media.

Coastal Communities Minister Penny Mordaunt officially opened YHA Brighton on Old Steine Road, on Monday 19 January. We have invested more than £1.2 million transforming the former 4-star Royal York Hotel into a luxury 180 bed Youth Hostel!

Our opening of YHA Brighton has not only provided much-need affordable accommodation for tourists and visitors to Brighton, but also secured the future of an historic Grade II listed building and also created 31 new jobs in the local economy.
