Councils

There are three councils in England and one in Wales. YHA members who live in that area elect members to the council at an annual meeting each year. If you are interested in knowing what is going on in YHA you can get the answer by attending one of these meetings or, at least an assurance that someone will try and get the answer for you.

The meetings receive updates on what is happening in YHA and have the opportunity to discuss these and make suggestions if appropriate. Some organise voluntary work parties, usually at small Youth Hostels, which may include painting, gardening etc.

Meetings are held around England and Wales throughout the year so that you can get involved in YHA through your own region. Each region (Northern, Central and Southern England Regions, and Wales) hold three meetings each year at different locations. Usually meetings are in Youth Hostels.

Wales

We are always delighted to see new faces at meetings.

Meetings are held at different Youth Hostels and you are usually welcome to attend if you arrange it first. Meetings usually last for 3-4 hours depending on the agenda. Regional AGMs are usually shorter. Please contact walescouncil@yha.org.uk

Wales Council will be meeting on:

28 June 2014 10.30am start at Gateway Centre, Shrewsbury
13 September 2014 Conwy

South England

Southern England Region covers the area of England south of the M4 and the River Thames all the way from Cornwall to Kent. The council consists of around 25 members and has three council meetings a year at youth hostels across the region along with our Regional AGM that alternates between London and Bristol each year.

We are always delighted to see new faces at meetings and please contact the regional chairman if you are planning to attend a meeting. Meetings usually start at 10:30am (10:00am when the meeting is combined with a Regional AGM) and usually finish by 4:30pm.

Southern England Regional Council will be meeting on:

11 October 2014 10:00 start and Regional AGM (13:00 start) at YHA London Lee Valley
