Spotlight on YHA Sheringham

Spotlight on YHA Sheringham

At YHA Sheringham, we do like to be beside the seaside! Our blue-skied town has buckets of traditional charm and it's just right for family breaks. With bright social spaces and lots of character, the hostel makes a friendly base to experience Sheringham's carnival atmosphere. Book a stay to discover our fun local events and the spectacular wildlife of the Norfolk Coast. You'll be relaxing in a deckchair in no time.

The Hostel

From colourful bunting to buckets and spades, YHA Sheringham is well matched to its seaside location. Our large and welcoming hostel has everything you need for a fabulous holiday. Look out for in-hostel music from Rock the Lobster twice a month, or get involved with our chilled open mic nights. We've got a fun games room to hang out in, light and airy social spaces to mingle, and a peaceful garden to catch the rays. How about treating yourself to some local ale or a delicious pizza from the Harbour Bar? Or alternatively, we're minutes from Tesco if you feel like self-catering. YHA Sheringham hosts art exhibitions by Natalie Knowles too - her bold illustrations capture our local community perfectly. If you're an architecture buff, the oldest part of the hostel was designed by Sir Giles Scott; the man who brought us the red telephone box and Tate Modern. Our oak-panelled chapel (now a meeting room) features stained glass and a vaulted ceiling. The hostel is ideal for school trips too, with wildlife excursions on the doorstep.

Sheringham Life

Leave the car at home - YHA Sheringham is only 5 minutes from the town centre and 10 minutes from the beach! Our lovable fishing town is packed with amazing events and there's always something interesting going on. Don't miss the 1940s weekend, where the town steps back in time to WW2. Sheringham plays host to unexploded bombs, Winston Churchill wandering the streets, and hundreds of people in period costume. Pack your gas mask, boogie to some live jazz and discover why we're so in love with our past. We're famous for the North Norfolk Railway - you can catch the historic steam train to Holt or meet Thomas the Tank Engine with the kids. July's Lobster Potty Festival attracts morris dancers from all across Europe too. Best of all, Sheringham Carnival comes to town in August and brings the whole community together. And look out for big events at the Sheringham Little Theatre all year round. Forget theme parks and arcades, our traditional seaside town is all about Victorian splendour, warm lazy breezes and making sandcastles.

Norfolk Attractions

From the cobbled streets of Norwich to some of the UK's best wildlife, Norfolk has it all. There's great public transport all along the coast, so grab the Coasthopper bus to Blakeley Point for a look at the seals. You can spot them bobbing in the sea around Sheringham too. Norfolk is the birdwatching capital of Britain and you'll find awesome nature reserves like Pensthorpe, which appeared on BBC's Springwatch. If you're heading to Hunstanton, don't miss the Sea Life Sanctuary to learn more about our underwater friends. Or visit Holkham beach for unspoilt sands and views to die for - it even appeared in Shakespeare in Love. We're also 5 miles from Cromer, which still has an original Grade II listed pier and the only end-of-the-pier show in Europe. This vibrant coastal town is fantastic for a family day out, with the Amazona Zoo and Cromer Museum for kids. It's only a half hour drive to Wroxham and the Norfolk Broads too, so you could hire a boat out for the day or enjoy a picnic by the river. You could even have a monster day out at the Dinosaur Adventure.

Outdoor Activities

The coastline between Sheringham and Hunstanton is an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty - there's so much eye-candy on the Norfolk Coast Path. Take a walk to Pretty Corner in Upper Sheringham for the family walking trail, or have a go at their sculpture rubbing. For runners, the weekly Sheringham Parkrun lets you sprint, job or walk 5k through a blooming fabulous collection of rhododendrons. For catching the waves, Cromer has a surf school to get you feeling confident. Or if you're a cyclist, there are lots of quiet lanes to explore. Book your stay and experience YHA Sheringham's unique seaside charm.
