Arctic Cabins in 'The Shire' at YHA Canterbury

As 27th March (first open night) creeps closer, staff at YHA Canterbury have their eager little faces pressed against the windows to the hostel garden! They're watching the brilliant teams from Arctic Cabins and Chris French Electrical working together to build our fantastic new hobbit homes.

When YHA Canterbury was refurbished 2 years ago, they named all of their 15 rooms after Canterbury-born or based figures and famous people. From church leaders, artists, composers, writers, inventors and medical geniuses, to 007's Ian Fleming and even our very own Rupert Bear Room!

One noted absence was the very handsome Canterbury-born Orlando Bloom of Lord of the Rings fame. It seemed perfect, therefore, when YHA Canterbury saw the pictures of the cabins for the first time to use him as inspiration to recreate 'The Shire' in their garden! We can't wait to get out there when 'Bloom Lodge', 'Frodo Lodge' and 'Pippin Lodge' are ready.

Replacing the 3 summer tents, these lodges are the height of glamping sophistication. They have 5 beds each including a double/single bunk and standard bunk, ensuite bathroom, fridge, microwave and tea/coffee making facilities.

We can't wait to share the fun with our precious guests...
