You can find out more and apply to volunteer at this hostel on the volunteering website

History

An oast, oast house or hop kiln is a building designed for kilning (drying) hops as part of the brewing process. They can be found in most hop-growing (and former hop-growing) areas and are often good examples of vernacular architecture. Many redundant oasts have been converted into houses or, in our case, into an affordable accommodation provider. Ideal for outdoor pursuits, we are just a few miles from the North Downs Way and Sustrans Cycling Route 1. The Chatham Ski and Snowboard Centre is only a five minute walk away. YHA Medway guests can also visit Rochester Castle, Rochester Cathedral and Charles Dickens’ former home, at Eastgate House. Historic Leeds Castle is just 12 miles away.

Meet the team

The team at YHA Medway welcome you with over 20 years experience in hospitality. We will do our very best to look after you.

Manager recommends: A gentle walk opposite Capstone County Farm Park, safe and quick slide down the Hill of Chatham’s Snowsport Centre, a daily trip to London which is only 24 miles away, a memorable visit to Rochester Castle or a historic research at Chatham dockside.
