Formerly a traditional coast house, YHA Medway provides modern, comfortable accommodation for guests during their stay. The property is a fantastic base for a countryside escape with family and friends.

One room that sleeps up to 3 people. It includes a high sleeper bunk with a double bed underneath.

Six rooms that sleep up to 4 people each. They include 2 sets of bunk beds.

Two rooms that sleep up to 5 people each. They include 1 set of bunk beds and a high sleeper bunk with a double bed underneath.

Kitchen and dining

The small kitchen is located on the ground floor and includes a range of conveniences listed below.

Kitchen appliances: clothes airer, iron and board, kettle, microwave, oven, refrigerator, stove, toaster, tumble dryer, washing machine.

Kitchenware: dishes and cutlery for 53 people, kitchen utensils, pots, pans.

Cleaning basics: anti-bacterial spray, bin bags, cloths, paper towels, soap, sponges, tea towels, washing up liquid.

Located on the ground floor, the dining room seats up to 20 people across 4 tables plus an additional fold-out table. There is a separate classroom with seating for up to 32 people across 6 tables as well as 6 extra chairs.

Three highchairs are available.

Lounge

The lounge is located on the ground floor and seats up to 10 people. There are 3 comfy sofas, two coffee tables and a wall-mounted flat screen TV to relax with in the evening after a long day in nature.

Bathrooms

Across the entire building there is a total of seven bathrooms.

Toilet paper is provided and hand soap is available next to all sinks.

Outdoors

Outside is a medium-sized garden. The garden is enclosed with a fence and bushes and has a gate.

Guests have full access to the garden.

Towels and toiletries: Hand soap is provided next to all sinks. Towels are not supplied as standard.

Dogs: Hire YHA Medway and bring your dogs! Add a dog to your booking at the checkout and bring your four-legged friend along with you. Dogs are not permitted in the bedrooms, on the furniture or in the kitchen, and must be kept on a lead in the grounds.

Situated in rural Kent, opposite Capstone Farm Country Park, YHA Medway is a traditional Oast house with plenty of character. Guests are welcome to relax in the ambient communal lounge and be sure to look out for exposed beams and beautiful brickwork.

YHA Medway is well-located for winter sports at Chatham ski centre, historic Rochester, Chatham Dockyard and the Kent Downs – which offers lovely countryside for walkers to enjoy. Medway is also within striking distance of London, should you wish to combine your trip with a visit to the capital.

The tasks are varied and in return you will meet some great people, who both work and stay in our hostels, as well as enjoying your time off discovering the local area and attractions.

History

An oast, oast house or hop kiln is a building designed for kilning (drying) hops as part of the brewing process. They can be found in most hop-growing (and former hop-growing) areas and are often good examples of vernacular architecture. Many redundant oasts have been converted into houses or, in our case, into an affordable accommodation provider. Ideal for outdoor pursuits, we are just a few miles from the North Downs Way and Sustrans Cycling Route 1. The Chatham Ski and Snowboard Centre is only a five minute walk away. YHA Medway guests can also visit Rochester Castle, Rochester Cathedral and Charles Dickens’ former home, at Eastgate House. Historic Leeds Castle is just 12 miles away.
