This the first time I have been hosteling for probably 30years, why have I left it so long to come back? I have just spent three very enjoyable days, at the end of Easter week 2013,at this magnificent hostel with my wife and son. Wife was very dubious about what she might find when she arrived and left with a very different impression to the extent that she has contacted a friend and suggested we take a booking for a group of friends. I look forward to coming back and indeed visiting other hostels. Richard

Ideal for someone who requires peace and quiet. Fantastic location with wonderful views. Staff very friendly and helpful. Self-Catering Kitchen/Dining is fantastically well equipped and clean - I cooked my own rather than purchase the in house cooking. Castleton village has lots of pubs (The Castle pub is very expensive and the food is nothing special either - £3.59 for a small Lemonade and tiny bowl of chips is pricey), quirky little independent shops (beautiful jewellery at very good prices), a post office and a visitor's centre for information and gifts. You can easily walk (park your car and walk it, it's lovely stroll) to the village from the Hostel, just walk to the end of the drive and turn right then follow the road round over the bridge. A word to wise wise about using your SatNav - it can take you on a bit of a ride! It took me up a mountain to a dead end, then through lots of lanes and villages. Do not rely on the SatNav giving you the right directions home, the staff at the hostel will direct you better - the SatNav added an extra 40 miles on my journey back to London! Although I never used them, the buses appeared to be quite frequent and you can get one straight into Sheffield, as well as the train from Hope/Edale/Hathersage. All in all, I loved it and will most definitely come back when the weather improves - Summer will be perfect.

First time staying in a hostel and this one was like a hotel! Very nice, bed comfortable, clean and a character all of its own. Ideal location for the hills and a few pints in the local village at night. Breakfast was fantastic, however evening meal was not really enough for being out on the moors all day, wish i had spent the same amount in a small restaurant in the village and been full! Staff booked me in, booked me out. That was all. After saying i had not stayed there before a little leaflet or talk about the facilities would have bee appreciated. I never knew you could cook your own food in the kitchen that i never knew about. Finally, on your last day if you are not going straight home a area to get cleaned up would be nice so as you dont have to drive hours and hours with a peat bog attached to your legs, a room open for a shower, toilet ect would be magic.
