YHA card

Sat, 9/03/2013 15:03 by paksa

Hi, I am very upset... I purchased a membership today. But nothing appeared in my YHA profile. I received a confirmation by e-mail with order number, type and price of the card. Am I a YHA member now or not? I received no card number. You wrote I had to puchase this card to have the right to use this discount. So I purcased it before the booking... But I'll be out of my campus for travel in a few days and I'll could not receive the card before my trip. So I fear to book YHA hostel with a discount now. Could I have any problems with accomodation if I'll have no YHA card by hand but a copy of Your confirmation letter only? What I had to do in hostels during my long trip to certify my membership? Or I need to buy another membership card in the first booked YHA hostel? Or I'll had to purchase the next card in this hostel when I'll arrive (to have the rights to realise today's booking with discounts)? Your new member... or not a member yet, AP

Sorry

I'm sorry to hear your expectations have not been met by YHA. The best thing to do is telephone YHA National Office freephone 0800 019170, Lines open 8am to 8pm, Mon-Fri.

They will be able to tell you if your membership has been processed, and if so what your membership number is.

It is possible to book online and apply the membership discount without having a membership card or number at the time of booking, but one must present a valid YHA membership card at check-in to prove the membership discount is applicable to your booking. If you have your membership number, then the youth hostel can usually log-in to their computer to check your number on the database, hence bypassing the need to produce a valid card. Smaller hostels without live computer database access can't do this directly at check-in, so best to check ahead to be on the safe side.

Non-members can stay in a YHA but a temporary membership fee applies, which is £3 per night per non-member.

Your card gets posted to you if you buy membership online. The easier route would have been to purchase membership over the counter at your first YHA (which is instant) as it sounds like you won't be at home to receive your card.

If your membership has yet to be processed (find out when you call), then it may be an idea to ask for that application to be cancelled and then buy your membership card at your first YHA.

Again, I'm sorry to hear of your concern. I'm sure a quick call to YHA will sort this out pretty quickly.

Karl.

how to contact?

Mon, 11/03/2013 8:34 by paksa

Goog morning,

Could you tell me, please, how can I call to 0800 019170 from France? I've tried, but I've got only "wrong number" message.
Also I wrote an e-mail on customerservices@yha.org.uk, but I've got only Mail failure message (550 Rule imposed mailbox access for customerservices@yha.org.uk refused).
How can I contact hostel?

Thank you,
Alexandra

Overseas calls

From France you should dial 00 44 1629 592 700, to reach YHA (England and Wales) customer services 8am-8pm (UK time).

Note that you will need a valid Hostelling International (HI) / YHA card for Youth Hostels outside of England and Wales, for example Dublin. Other associations like Ireland won't be able to check your England and Wales membership number on a computer database. Each country has its own computer system. You will be charged a non-member fee upon arrival if you are not able to present a valid HI card.

Thank You, karl.shepherdson,
I'll try to call YHA Office tomorrow, I purchased this card yesterday, it was a Saturday and I was about to plan my trip and to book everything I need. I had to begin my trip this week, so I could not wait for the card. Thank You for the advice. May be they could give me the number and it will be enough for London and Dublin hostels.
