About Cycling

YHA invites you to try some of our great cycling holiday locations. Whether you’re a mountain biker, road cyclist or more of a tranquil routes enthusiast, we’ve got you covered. Our network of cycling hostels is growing, with more and more hostels meeting our YHA Bike standards, ensuring both you and your bike have a relaxing evening after an adventurous day.

YHA Bike Standards

Our YHA Bike hostels are situated near some of the best cycling locations in the country, but they offer more than just a comfy place to stay. With secure bike storages facilities, basic repair kits, bike wash, drying rooms and a selection of spares available, these sites understand your needs as a cyclist. Our hostel staff can direct you to some of the best routes in the area or organise hire bikes for you during your stay. We'll even prepare a delicious and nourishing meal full of carbs to keep you fuelled up after a busy day of cycling.

Road Cycling

For the Bradley Wiggins or Victoria Pendletons of this world, we have cycling hostels that offer some seriously challenging routes. We’re also pleased to welcome long-distance cyclists that are looking for just a one night stop-over. We’ve selected a few hostels that we recommend for the serious road cyclists.

Mountain Biking

Does a mud treatment for you mean blazing downhill through dirt tracks and slush? We’ve got just the right places for you to visit on your next mountain biking break. These cycling hostels have got enough clay and gravel on the doorstep to keep you entertained, whilst offering a spa treatment for your bike at the end of a day’s hard work.

Family/Novice Cycling

Perhaps one of best ways to bring the entire family into nature and enjoy the scenic landscape is on two wheels. Flat tracks and traffic-free zones are what set these hostels apart, offering a relaxing but active holiday for cyclists of all abilities and ages. Forgotten to pack your bike? We’ve got you covered, as we can organise hire bikes for you via our local partners.

About Cycling

Cycling is so much more than a fast and eco-friendly way of getting from A to B - in fact, to many it's a way of life. Whether you're committed to life on two wheels, or just like to get out and about with the wind in your hair on a weekend, Britain has a fantastic network of cycle paths running through town, country, coastline and forest, and there are few better ways to enjoy a beautiful view than from the saddle of a bike. If you've never tried a cycling holiday before, you might just find a brand new way to relax!

YHA operates an extensive network of hostels all around the country, many of which have excellent cycling facilities, so your bike will have a safe and secure place to take a rest while you do! The geographical range of our hostels makes it easy to find comfortable and affordable accommodation on or near a number of acclaimed cycle routes.

Cycling breaks make a great activity for families, and our hostels are well-equipped to take care of all members of the family from young to old. You can take things as fast or slow as you like - whether you want a pedal-pumping challenge or a relaxing ride, you're sure to find routes nearby that match what you're looking for. Our staff will always be happy to advise guests on UK cycling holidays on the scenic routes right on your doorstep. Some of our hostels also offer cycle hire, so you may not even need to bring your own bikes!

About Mountain Biking

While mountain biking may look similar to cycling, fans of the sport will tell you it's anything but! Mountain biking means taking your bike off-road, sometimes trekking far into the wilderness to experience some of the toughest challenges nature has to offer. There is a variety of disciplines within mountain biking, including cross-country, trail riding, dirt jumping, downhill and freeriding - and the UK has a fantastic selection of off-road trails, parks, forestlands and rocky slopes to cater to everybody's tastes.

Mountain biking can be undertaken solo or in groups, and often friends who share the passion get together to embark on long mountain biking holidays where they can really get acquainted with Britain's best spots. With YHA's large selection of hostels and lodges all around the country, many of which are equipped with cycle store facilities, we're often the natural choice for low-cost, comfy accommodation - and many an exhausted mountain biker has been only too happy to come back to the hostel for a bit of food and relaxation at the end of a hard day on the trails!

Many of our hostels are ideally situated to cater to mountain biking breaks. Whether you're a mountain biking rookie looking to get some practice in, or a lifelong fan hungry for new experiences, there are YHA hostels all over England and Wales that will make the perfect base for your break.
