Camping Barns & Shepherd's Huts in England and Wales
Like the idea of camping but want to shelter under something more substantial than fabric? Try a night in a camping barn. These "stone tents" offer simple accommodation with a communal area to prepare your meals, relax and sleep.
As a minimum you’ll have running water and a flush toilet but some barns also have a sleeping platform or bunk beds, cooking facilities and showers. Remember your sleeping bag and mat, warm clothes, a torch and walking boots.
Shepherd's Huts are your chance to experience the traditional dwelling of a Northumbrian shepherd. These cosy mobile shelters were once towed by horses into the hills and fells to allow shepherds to tend to their flocks over lambing season. With the help of talented local craftspeople, we’ve reproduced these caravan-like shelters from an example found abandoned in the Cheviot Hills.
We’ve added a few mod cons to ensure our guests a good night’s rest – the huts are fully insulated, have bunk beds with warm duvets, and electric lighting and heating. Our Shepherd’s Huts offer a genuinely unique overnight as they can’t be found anywhere else but YHA Wooler.
YHA has camping barns all over England and Wales, in Wales, the Lake District, Farndale, the North York Moors, and the Peak District. Camping barns are great for group accommodation, Duke of Edinburgh excursions, scout groups and family camping holidays. Sleep warm and dry, rain or shine! For a unique experience, sleep in our Shepherd's Huts, only available at YHA Wooler!
