About Treyarnon

Surf, sand and superb sunsets in summer, wild storms and log fires in winter, YHA Treyarnon has everything you need for a cheap family break. Set between Padstow and Porthcothan, this former 1930s summer residence is virtually on the beach, and well located for activity breaks. Perfect for walking and cycling holidays or for the more adventurous, book a surfing package. Try the great menu on offer in our dining room and full bar complete with local beers, ciders and sea views.

In summer, enjoy a day on the beach with a surfing lesson or coasteering - scale the cliffs and overcome your fear of heights by jumping into the crystal clear waters. Whatever type of activity holiday you're looking for, you'll find it here. After a long day walking or cycling, complete your day with a well earned BBQ and pint of local ale.

Volunteering opportunities

Walking & Rambling

Perfectly located for unbeatable coastal walks, enjoy the rugged cliffs and coves along the South West Coast Path. Head North and East for Padstow, taking in Trevose Head and the beautiful sheltered bays at Mother Ivey's and Harlyn. Head south to the famed Bedruthan Steps cliff-staircase and walk along the beach before heading on towards Watergate Bay or Newquay.

Cycling

The National Cycle Route 32 passes only yards away from the door and offers a signed route to Bodmin or Truro as part of the larger Cornish Way Cycle Route. Link up with the Camel Trail in Padstow, only 4 miles away - there's a gentle, traffic-free section to Wadebridge along a disused railway, teeming with birdlife and fantastic picnic spots for a great day out. There's plenty of cycle hire shops in Padstow and Wadebridge. If you're aiming further afield, take a ride along the coastal roads, passing picturesque bays and villages, or head inland for some serious hill-climbs and unmatched views.

Watersports

Widely regarded as the first beach to have surfing in the UK, there's great bodyboarding and fun surfing only yards away in Treyarnon Bay. A quick walk across the headland brings you to Constantine Bay and Booby's Bay, with a huge variety of waves for beginners or the more advanced surfer - widely known as a 'swell magnet' of the North Cornish Coast. If the storms are rolling in, head around the corner to Harlyn Bay, sheltered from the Westerly winds and a good option during any fierce conditions. If you're a beginner, Harlyn is also home to the Harlyn Bay Surf School, with board hire and wetsuits available as well. No waves? No problem! Have a go at stand-up paddleboarding, or go coasteering with the expert guides.

We had a perfect stay here! It could not have been better, unless we had stayed longer and at a warmer time of year! The staff were friendly, flexible and laid back, and provided flippin lovely local beers in the bar, as well as advice on local sights and safety! This must be a heaven for surfers and beach lovers alike in the summer. We were made to feel incredibly welcome and will definitely be back to enjoy the uniquely fantastic location - on a clifftop overlooking magical rock pools and caves.

Brilliant location - view from dining room and garden fantastic. Great base to try surfing / sea canoeing at local surf school. Meals very good and so kids all happy. The only down point was that although we were lucky to have own ensuite as it was windowless smelt a bit damp when we stayed at end of wet March weekend.

Myself and my boyfriend recently had a one night stay here for a wedding nearby. Whilst we were mostly very impressed, the cleanliness of the floor in our bedroom and the windows throughout let the place down. The setting however is incredible - it was lovely to be able to explore the beach on foot. The only other thing I would mention is the music which was turned on (in the cafe) below our bedroom at 7am on a Sunday morning!!
