Overview
The hostel is located within the stunning Cot Valley, overlooking the Atlantic ocean on the western tip of Cornwall, between Land’s End and Cape Cornwall. Cot Valley sits within a designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, and within the UNESCO World Heritage Cornwall Historic Mining Landscape.
Cot Valley has its own sub-tropical microclimate and is home to plants not found elsewhere in mainland Britain. Its ‘edge of the world' feel is ideal for adventurous families, coastal path walkers, and nature lovers seeking a tranquil base from where they can explore Cornwall’s breathtaking west coast.
The family run hostel is a short walk from beaches and the South West Coast Path. It also lies within 15 minutes walking distance of St Just. A traditional Cornish town, blessed with highly rated cafés, pubs, art galleries and shops.
This small hostel is a perfect base for walking, discovering surf breaks, birdwatching, enjoying the incredible beaches the area has to offer, or simply taking in clifftop sunsets.
The hostel is sometimes available on an Exclusive Hire basis (early booking advised). There is also a separate camping-pod area, with two pods overlooking the sea. In addition, there is limited camping provision for Coast Path Walkers (on foot only).

Hostel need to know
Accommodation: This hostel is available on an Exclusive Hire basis if reserved in advance. Rooms and dorm bed spaces will be made available on other booking dates. There is also a separate camping-pod area, with two pods overlooking the sea. In addition, there is limited camping provision for Coast Path Walkers (on foot only).
Self-catering: Hostel guests have access to a self-catering kitchen. Pod and camping guests have access to an outdoor washing up and food prep area.
Noise: This hostel is not suitable for stag or hen parties, or loud celebrations due to the presence of neighbouring homes. Cot Valley is a tranquil environment for guests to enjoy peace and the sounds of nature.
Parking: There is an on-site car park for guests, but no access for full-size coaches.
WiFi: Free WiFi is available in shared social spaces.
Dogs: Pets are not permitted at YHA Land’s End. However, well behaved dogs are permitted when hiring the whole hostel through Exclusive Hire. Please note: dogs that excessively bark are not permitted due to the presence of neighbouring homes. Assistance dogs are welcome - please notify us at the time of booking.

History
YHA Land’s End has been a hostel since 1939, having been built as a private home in the early 20th century and it still has the original fireplaces in the common room and dining room. The hostel and grounds are set within the Cornish Mining Heritage Site on the side of the Cot Valley with views down to the sea and walks to the coast, St Just, and the wild moorlands of Penwith.
Now a peaceful valley famous for spotting rare migratory birds, the valley was once heavily industrialised during the late 19th century tin mining boom and the relics are all within walking distance of the hostel. More ancient remains include the Ballowall Barrow – a chambered cairn dating from the late Neolithic to the Middle Bronze Age – set high above the valley.

We know of a few along the coast that are well worth exploring, a couple are just a short stroll from the hostel, so pack your swimmers, a picnic lunch and leave the crowds behind. If it's an activity break you're after, hit the beach for some surfing holiday fun. If you're a 'twitcher' there are some great spots for bird watching. Sennen Farmers’ Market on a Tuesday has been voted the best farmers’ market in Cornwall for the last couple of years. Visit to pick up local food and craft wares.
