Situated on the southern slopes of Swaledale, YHA Grinton Lodge is surrounded by stunning scenery and exceptional views of the Yorkshire Dales.
For walking holidays there are lots of routes throughout the Yorkshire Dales National Park for varying abilities and for anyone doing the Coast to Coast walk, YHA Grinton Lodge makes for a well-deserved stop-off point. If you’re on your mountain bike, set off from the Youth Hostel and choose a path to suit you.
The Youth Hostel is just a 10 minute walk from the village of Grinton which has a cosy pub and a small church. If you’re exploring by car or bus, the larger historic market town of Richmond is 10 miles away. Richmond Castle is a must-visit tourist attraction and there’s a cinema, art gallery and heritage centre to keep you entertained.

Hand soap is provided next to all sinks. Towels are not supplied as standard but can be rented or purchased from reception. Bedding is supplied in all rooms.

Dogs can stay on our campsite and in our camping pods. There is a £5 charge per dog per night for our camping pod accommodation which is payable upon arrival. You can bring your dog for free if you are camping in your own tent.
Pets are not permitted in the hostel accommodation at YHA Grinton Lodge however, assistance dogs are welcome throughout, please advise upon booking.

By car: From the east: leave the A1 and follow signs to Richmond. Grinton is 10 miles east on the B6270. Grinton Lodge is 3/4 mile due south. From the west: leave the M6 and travel to Leyburn on the A684. Turn left in Leyburn over the moor road to the hostel.
By train: Nearest train stations are Northallerton and Darlington.
By bus:: The nearest bus stop is Scotch Corner. All of these have bus services to Richmond. There is a sporadic bus service from Richmond to Grinton, with a 10 minute walk up the hill to the hostel. Timetables for the bus services are available on the Dales Bus website - times may vary from summer to winter.
By coach: The nearest National Express coach station is at Ripon, 26 miles away. Book your coach tickets here.
