About YHA Berwick
Housed in a 240 year old restored granary, YHA Berwick boasts fabulous original features combined with a modern budget accommodation experience. Ideal for cheap UK coastal breaks or as a base for activity and family holidays in Northumberland, the Youth Hostel has 13 bedroom, all with en-suite facilities, some of which are private and family rooms, a trendy café/bistro and is situated in a perfect location, close to the historic town centre of Berwick-upon-Tweed. Located on the quay-side, beside the river Tweed, the building has a unique lean - think the Leaning Tower of Pisa but on our own shores!
The Granary even has its very own art gallery so if you fancy soaking up some culture during your break, take a look at some of the exhibits on offer, from international artists as well as locals. Art lovers can also follow the Lowry trail which visits some of the sites immortalised in Lowry's paintings.
Steeped in history, Berwick has ramparts to explore and also offers some breath-taking views from its Elizabethan town walls. If you’re after a cycling break, Berwick lies on the Sustrans cycle route and so the Youth Hostel makes an ideal stop-off point.
So, whether you’re a walker, cyclist, beachcomber, culture vulture or just looking to get away from it all on a relaxing weekend break, look no further than YHA Berwick.
Wanting to take a trip further afield? The historic streets of Edinburgh are 56 miles away. This World Heritage Site is bursting at the seams with history, stunning architecture and amazing views. Whilst there you can visit the medieval castle, beautiful gardens, great shops and fantastic cafés and restaurants.
If you don’t fancy crossing the border, why not travel south to Newcastle-upon-Tyne (63 miles away). A city united by seven bridges, Newcastle is famous for its vibrant culture, nightlife, galleries and miles of stunning coast line – a city not to be missed.
Once you've soaked up all the culture you can manage, relax with a delicious home cooked meal in the licensed Granary Bistro. Have a look at a sample menu of what you can expect when you eat with us here.
The Granary Bistro is a great venue which hosts open mic nights, comedy clubs and live music events, all in the heart of Berwick. Check the Local Information tab for a list of upcoming events at the Granary Bistro.

Hostel Closing Times:
Is the hostel open every day of the year?
- The lowry trail around the town. Follow the mapped route around Berwick which takes in some of the famous sites that Lowry immortalised in his paintings. This is a great way to spend a day seeing the town, taking in some of the wonderful scenery.
Holy Island. Take a trip to the world famous pilgrimage site and spend a day exploring the island and the fantastic surrounding beaches.
The Maltings. For all you culture vultures, why not take in a show at the Maltings theatre. Whether it be a famous comedian, a performance by a touring theatre company or a musical performance, the Maltings has something for all ages all year round.
The Barrells Ale house. A favourite of guests and staff alike, nothing quite beats unwinding with a pint at this award winning traditional pub a stones throw from the hostel. Great beer, great banter and great music.
