Places to stay in Newcastle Upon Tyne

The most northerly city in England, Newcastle Upon Tyne has a culture all of its own and has become a thriving centre of industry, technology and the arts. With a well-established sporting tradition, several major shopping centres, a wealth of museums and art galleries and of course a lively pubbing, clubbing and music scene, there really is something for everyone in the Toon.

Bigg Market and the Quayside areas are popular with revellers almost any night of the week, while history buffs can take in sights like Castle Keep and the Tynemouth Priory. Eldon Square, the UK's biggest shopping centre complex, is guaranteed to please even the most die-hard shoppers.

Anyone visiting the Toon can find some excellent YHA hostels nearby. While we don't offer accommodation in Newcastle itself, the Durham hostel offers easy access to the city centre via train, or alternatively stop in the 17th century inn at Edmundbyers, which is only a short car journey away.
