YHA Litton Cheney was a former industrial building that had been entirely transformed for hostel use. It originally opened in 1937 but was taken over by the army in 1939 and wouldn't reopen until 1947. A large refurbishment was completed as the hostel was neglected through hard use by the soldiers.
Volunteering with YHA is a fantastic way to have fun, learn new skills, boost your CV and travel to different places. We have a variety of different opportunities to choose from and volunteering roles to suit everyone.
The tasks are varied and in return you will meet some great people, who both work and stay in our hostels, as well as enjoying your time off discovering the local area and attractions.
This hostel is part of our Volunteer Managers programme. You can find out about becoming a Volunteer Manager and supporting our small hostels through YHA volunteering.
Manager recommends: If you're on a weekend break in Dorset, try and pull in a visit to Maiden Castle, the largest and most complex Iron Age hill fort in Britain.
Go in search of fossils! The best and safest place to find them is Charmouth beach near Lyme Regis. If you simply want to see some, local museums showcase the area’s most spectacular discoveries.
