A vast piece of art, ‘The Story of Bay – Footprints through Time’, believed to be one of the longest public mosaic artworks in the UK, has been installed on the sea wall at Robin Hood’s Bay.

The artwork, comprising 50 mosaic panels, has been commissioned by the North York Moors National Park Authority, to cover a 125-metre stretch of parapet adjacent to a path that visitors follow to reach the popular village.

Adverse weather update 14/1/2015

After an undeniably wet end to 2015, we'd like to confirm that almost all of our hostels are open thanks to the amazing staff, volunteers and local communities in the areas affected! Only YHA Keswick remains closed for essential repairs and will be reopening at the end of March. Look out for our updates to see how we're getting on. In the meantime, YHA Helvellyn will be opening its doors over February half term to make up for the closure.

Adverse weather update 31/12/15

Despite the best efforts of the storms over the past few weeks, it’s great to see that almost all of our hostels are open as planned.

Only YHA Keswick remains affected, and will be closed for essential repairs until the end of March.

With the weather conditions constantly changing, and some road closures resulting in diversions, we recommend you check the local news, weather and travel channels before setting off so that you can plan your journey and avoid any travel disruptions.

Lake District Flooding - Update 22/12/15, 12pm

Let’s start by thanking everyone, especially our guests and suppliers, for their continued offers and messages of support and encouragement. It reminds us how special we are to have such a dedicated group of team members, volunteers and guests who are all, without exception entirely understanding of the disruption caused by the flooding and tireless in their efforts to get back to normal. The latest position is as follows...

YHA Cockermouth – is now dried out and will opening as normal over the New Year.

85 Years In The Making

85 Years In The Making

In 1930, a group of volunteers set up an association to provide young working people with an affordable escape. YHA was born.

The date was December 1930, the place Pennant Hall in North Wales. It’s now 85 years since the first YHA property opened its doors, but our overall mission as a charitable organisation has stayed clear: to inspire all, especially young people, to broaden their horizons, gaining knowledge and independence through new experiences of adventure and discovery.

Ben Fogle Interview

Ben Fogle Interview

It’s now 15 years since Ben Fogle first found fame on the BBC reality show Castaway. He’s since become one of Britain’s highest-profile adventurers, rarely straying far from an ocean, desert or mountain. We caught up with him for an exclusive chat about the places and people that have left him with the most enduring impressions.

Growing up, what do you remember about your first great outdoor experience?
