Water Activities

Water-based activity from YHA Ambleside- afternoon

YHA are supporting OS National GetOutside day on 29th Sep 2019 with some free to join activities at selected hostels.

Canoeing is a fun water-based activity which involves paddling through water using a paddle with one blade. Our fully qualified instructors will show you how to use the paddle and equipment, how to select and carry the boats, launching and landing and what to do if a boat capsizes. All boats, paddles and life jackets will be provided, and we'll tailor the activity to your needs by adding challenges and games. It is a fun activity, suitable for adults and children of all abilities.

Kayaking is a popular and entertaining water sport activity which involves paddling through water in a closed deck boat, using a paddle with two blades (whereas canoeing uses a paddle with one blade). We offer flat water kayaking which is the ideal environment for learning about how to control the kayak.

Raft building is a fun and exciting activity for all ages. You will be put into groups and given poles, planks, ropes and barrels to use to work together to construct a raft to launch on a lake or reservoir. Our friendly instructors will give you hints and tips on design and construction ideas and show you ways to tie knots. Once the rafts are built, you'll set sail and see who stays afloat!

Maximum number of people that can book is 8 for each activity.

Activities are suitable for ages 8 and up and children must be accompanied by an adult.
