Nicola Wright

Through my involvement in Girlguiding, Duke of Edinburgh and hiking, I have developed a love for the outdoors, often being very grateful for the use of YHA facilities in remote places!

In 2018 I spent a summer solo travelling in southern China, where I spent a lot of time in hostels and recognised the vital source of information and social opportunities they offer. This was particularly true in cities, where knowing there was a trusted, supporting institution available transformed the experience.

I am passionate about increasing access to the outdoors and dispelling the notion that hiking has to be wet, cold and uncomfortable. Furthermore, I want to encourage and enable girls to travel solo safely through the availability of well-established institutions such as the YHA.

I am currently a student at Oxford University, studying maths and philosophy. I have become involved in producing theatre shows – learning to manage a budget, assimilate contrasting creative visions and keep a team of cast and crew on schedule. I also hopes to bring my experience of writing bid applications and fundraising to the role.
