YHA has been a constant feature in my life. While growing up, family holidays were spent in youth hostels that would serve as ideal bases to spend a few days hiking and connecting with nature. These formative experiences were the foundation for my love of the outdoors. I have volunteered with YHA, spending time as part of the housekeeping and kitchen team, and stayed in youth hostels during university field trips to the Lake District.
I work as a Graduate GIS Consultant at an international engineering consultancy, within the environment and social division, where ensuring sustainability and delivering positive social outcomes are core objectives for every project.
I have a lot of experience in youth and charity work. In 2017, I spent 10 weeks working at a summer camp in the USA, which strives to provide a natural sanctuary for disadvantaged children and led treks along the Appalachian Trail. In 2018, I organized and led my own expedition to Nepal, assembling a team of fellow students and helping them fundraise £6,000 towards the construction of a new school building. As part of this project, I helped to deliver lessons to children on sustainability and environmental stewardship.
I hope that I will be able to bring my leadership and creativity to the Youth Advisory Team. I am excited to play a part in helping to provide and engage young people with outdoor and adventure opportunities, so that in the future they can also be inspired to take every opportunity they can.
