All social groups can now become affiliated to YHA at no extra cost and take advantage of some great benefits.
From March 1, 2007, any organisation – for example, youth, hiking or other outdoor groups – can join YHA as an Affiliate Member.
At £25.50, it costs no more than a standard Group Membership but YHA affiliates get access to a comprehensive and competitive Civil Liability Insurance package for sports and outdoor clubs.
Joining is easy. To receive a membership joining form by email please contact membership@yha.org.uk or phone YHA Membership on 01629 592771 and ask for a copy to be sent by post. The form will be available online soon.
You’ll receive a new member pack and be offered unique packages, deals and benefits.
Affiliated groups vary in the activities they carry out but many are involved in outdoor pursuits and organise trips to YHA accommodation throughout the year.

Conditions of membership:
YHA Affiliate Members must have:
- Adequate insurance for the group’s activities
- A formal constitution
Affiliate Membership features:
- Group membership card for making bookings and accessing member benefits
- Benefits, offers and deals on YHA services and from third parties
- Central group reservations booking service
- Group members do not have to be individual members of YHA (unlike the previous Hostelling and Local Groups system)
- Access to civil liability insurance package
- No requirement to change your constitution or support YHA by fundraising or volunteering
- Does not affect your affiliation to national governing bodies of sport or other charities like the Ramblers Association.
Note - Affiliate Membership is not available to education groups.
