Bedrooms

Three rooms that sleep up to 2 people each. They include 1 set of bunk beds.

Five rooms that sleep up to 4 people each. They include 2 sets of bunk beds.

Kitchen and dining

The kitchen is located off the dining room and includes a range of conveniences listed below.

Kitchen appliances: kettle, microwave, oven, refrigerator, stove, toaster, wood stove.

Kitchenware: dishes and cutlery for 26 people, kitchen utensils, pots and pans.

Cleaning basics: anti-bacterial spray, bin bags, cloths, paper towels, soap, sponges, tea towels, washing up liquid.

Located on the ground floor, the dining room seats up to 26 people.

Lounge

The lounge area is located within the dining room and seats up to 12 people. There are 2 sofas, 2 tub chairs and 4 comfy stools. There is a wood-burning stove and a large selection of board games, puzzles and books – perfect for winding down after a day of exploring.

Bathrooms

Across the entire building there is a total of four bathrooms.

Showers: 4

An additional WC can be accessed outside the hostel.

Toilet paper is provided and hand soap is available next to all sinks.

Outdoors

Outside consists of some small grounds, with direct access to the surrounding countryside.

The grounds are not enclosed. Guests have full access to the grounds. Fires are not permitted.

Outdoor amenities: 6 cycle stands, 4 picnic tables.

Dogs
Hire YHA Honister Hause and bring your dogs! Add a dog to your booking at the checkout and bring your four-legged friend along with you. Dogs are not permitted in the bedrooms, on the furniture or in the kitchen, and must be kept on a lead in the grounds.

You will receive an email prior to your arrival with the property address and check-in instructions.
Guest access
Guests have use of the whole property except for the pot wash and store room. The hostel manager lives onsite, within the hostel building with separate access routes which guests do not have access to.

The hostel is also perfect for a relaxing off-grid gathering so you can disconnect from the modern world and enjoy the beautiful surroundings.

This former quarry workers' house is in true mountain country with easy access to England’s highest peaks. Steep valleys stretch down from the mountains to Derwentwater and Buttermere to create a beautiful and distinctive landscape.There’s a 400-year-old working slate mine next door which is home to the world-famous Westmorland Green Slate as well as plenty of other areas for guests to enjoy. The hostel has good public transport links and car access so you can start exploring straight away.

Self-catering: YHA Honister Hause is self-catering only. Guests have access to a kitchen.

Parking: The hostel car park has space for up to six cars. The nearby National Trust car park is free overnight if staying in the hostel, but pay and display during the day for non-National Trust members.

Dogs: Pets are not permitted at YHA Honister Hause, except when hiring the whole hostel through YHA Exclusive Hire. Assistance dogs are welcome – please notify us at the time of booking.
